seems to be editor specific -- back-end content edits fine.
Cleared all caches. No change.
Will try a different editor.

I guess the question is: Why did it happen and why did it (apparently)
fix itself within minutes?

Has Joomla evolved to the point where it is self-repairing? 

Did about 5 or 6 site updates last night - Oddly, the 2 largest sites I did (my own and one other): I was left (for a few minutes) with a fully functional web site with no content! Yea.
