Re: JED Update Questions and Discussion.
Hi Without wanting to start a hectic discussion over commercialisation, I feel that many developers are trying to find ways to be GPL'd but also obtain monetary compensation for this. Typical methods include "site subscriptions" and "clubs" - the extension is free, but the member...

Monitoring replies to posts is tricky
Hi As a mod in the general forums, I pay a lot of attention to threads that I have participated in, returning repeatedly to drive towards successful resolution. To do this on the old forum, I went to "Replies to my posts". Every topic there was a response that happened after mine, or after...

GNU/GPL licence category too vague
Hi Like many (most) people, I have come to associate GNU/GPL with free as in "no money". The recent clarification of Joomla's licence scenarios for extensions has seen a growing trend towards GNU/GPL extensions that require a site subscription or club membership for download. I don't wish to s...

Re: Joomla 1.5 extension statistics
Hi
Thanks for the info - I can do the search on a regular basis.
I still feel that general users would be well served by making the stat available on the extensions frontpage.
Regards
Brendon

Joomla 1.5 extension statistics
Hi I field many, many posts about whether to use 1.0.x or 1.5 for development sites. Apart from the stability of the 1.5 release, the main concern is the availability of extensions that are compatible. Would it be possible to add a piece of text on the JED home page that summarises 1.5 compati...

Re: When "free" isn't
Hi all
Instead of debating the business case for commercial extensions, can we rather put together a list of suggested new licence forms:
1. Free & commercial versions
2. Free for non-profit
any others?
Regards
Brendon

When "free" isn't
Hi I am seeing an increasing number of extensions listed as "Other open source / Free license" when in fact they are not. The most common example is where the developer lists a single extension that comes in two versions (e.g. Lite and Pro). In these cases, the lite is free, foss, gnu/gpl etc,...

Re: Keep track of updated extensions
Hi Yes, I can still go to the menu link, but I guess I am just a little stuck in my ways. I enjoy scanning the front page of the extensions site for both new and updated extensions (sometimes even several times a day). What would be great is something that helps us to find new and updated exte...

Keep track of updated extensions
Hi I noticed that the top right block on the extensions home page has changed from recently updated to top rated extensions. I scan the extensions site every day at least twice, and I miss the recent update list. Is there any work being done on a watch list, updates since last visit or email notific...
