Re: How to start a Joomla! User's Group in a City Near You!
Having local UG's for support is redundant and unnecessary IMO. That leaves the options of promotion and socialization. Frankly, I live in world where the only people who know what I'm talking about are here on this forum. Everyone else seems to think the web is voodoo in a box.&n...

Re: How to start a Joomla! User's Group in a City Near You!
It was not the logo usage what worried me but the word "official". Words, you know. Words are important. If you say "this is the Omaha Official JUG" you should expect any new user from Omaha trying to get in touch with that group. Therefore, Joomla! should provide a "charter" or "guidelines" or an ...

Re: How to start a Joomla! User's Group in a City Near You!
A few thoughts. One of the signs of a healthy and viable community is its friendliness amongst its members. I personally think that Joomla! User Groups are a good idea if kept in the proper perspective. There are several examples in varying projects of different definitions of what makes up a...

Re: Missing post in 1.5 itemid thread
Great to see the global moderators operating speedily and in tandem to resolve this. Sadly when things take a while to resolve or be answered people see conspiracy. Great that it all worked well this time I don't see conspiracy. I've never seen conspiracy. I see people trying to protect their inter...

Missing post in 1.5 itemid thread
I just wrote a post today concerning the risks involving having the frontend URI and backend URI out of sync inside a CMS and it's no longer around. Can I have a reasonable answer as to why my skills and experience within the perils of closed source enterprise CMS management are not worthy of acknow...

Very quiet. There were two from MUG (including myself), another person who runs the Ruby on Rails User Group in Melbourne and a couple from the tequp network. No photos either..

Re: The benefits of extra designs in the shop
Whilst a percentage to OSM would be good I belive it would be easier if the transaction was as a donation from the UG to Joomla! rather than skimming a percentage from the top. That way the UG can ensure its viable and donate what it can afford. Whereas I'm thinking about progressive economies of s...

Re: The benefits of extra designs in the shop
I do hope though, Shayne, that not "all" proceeds would go to the User Group, but a part to Joomla through OSM. Otherwise, going through the Official shop looks indeed like the only acceptable solution. What about this option: c.) supplied by a local (to UG) supplier, with the Frontend being via th...

Re: The benefits of extra designs in the shop
Why are you looking for benefits? Helping Joomla is enough for me. Well, if it's a design specific to a location or region, and the act of purchase doesn't invest in the local community in any way by that act, what's the point ? After all, it would be plainly idiotic to starve the user groups...

Re: How to start a Joomla! User's Group in a City Near You!
Start by following the rules Lawrence. You cant have a shop. Accept it. I can't also have any merchantable material, such as a T-shirt for the MUG "core" whenever that happens (i.e. so people know they're dealing with JMUG people). Anything that involves some manner of duplication, as per a T-shirt...

Re: How to start a Joomla! User's Group in a City Near You!
I dont agree with your conclusions at all Lawrence. I think we have a completely different idea about what a User Group is. It's okay to have a completely different idea. Shayne has said that's okay in terms of how OSM treats the UGs. I'm okay with it too. The question is - where do we go from here...

Re: How to start a Joomla! User's Group in a City Near You!
One of my favorite sayings is " Power to the People! " which is a big part of what I love about open source - it empowers people. So, I'd sure stand against any structure where I thought there might be an "takeover/occupation." Eeek! Centralisation of resources and control will do that. Mutua...

Re: How to start a Joomla! User's Group in a City Near You!
In part of the reading, there is discussion of getting legal not for profit standing. That is going to be a big challenge for many - and overkill for small groups. Does it make sense to either have a "central" not for profit group and local accounts? And, should that be separate from or part of joo...

Re: How to start a Joomla! User's Group in a City Near You!
If we follow the LUG model (which is what I'm trying to do), in order to make the barriers to UG membership as low as possible (i.e no fees whatsoever), other forms of business operation are needed. LUGs do encourage merchandising for Linux and suggest it overtly as a means for financial liqui...

Re: JED: Dates are well.. lost
From a design and usability perspective, the date last updated should be contextually associated with the version number as the version number is the primary field to determining last updated (unless of course, people tinker with their description and content). It would read better if you stuck the ...

Your interpretation of "source code" is going to bring you some trouble Like I said, it's a test case for the legality of your licence. I also write Windows applications. The "source code" is compiled for use under the Windows operating system. J! Reactions is PHP script code, similarly writt...

Re: Sensitive review claims need to be confirmed with developer
The "Free" designation is most certainly correct for the Free Edition of J! Reactions, lol. There are only 4 or 5 options for developers. But really, this has nothing to do with the review error. How can it be free when the licence even stops developers fixing your free product to take it in a dire...

What should the flickr tag be again? Interesting.. I had about 4 or 5 conversation on the politics of Mambo, being ex-3PD Standards and U&A/D&A (I think I had 3 people ask me directly why it went south in the first place) so the difference on the 'floor' is remarkably different than the perception f...
