Does anyone know what's behind the joomla.org site? The reason I am asking is to get an idea of the hardware/apache/php/mysql optimizations which may be behind the snappy performance of the site given the high traffic demands. Are things like apache clustering or load balancing used? Mysql or php performance tweaks? Accelerators etc?
Thanks
Joomla.org Backend Questions Topic is solved
Re: Joomla.org Backend Questions
The information here is still valid for the most part. No load balancing or Apache clustering, extra settings I don't know of as this is Rochen's setup.

Re: Joomla.org Backend Questions
It is mostly down to how we have the servers configured and tuned. We run the main Joomla sites off two servers, soon to be three with the third already online, and then another two boxes for the Joomla Code site with a backend network between them.
If we didn't have all of the servers so well tuned then we would require 2 - 3 times the amount of hardware we currently have in place for the Joomla sites now and they probably wouldn't be any faster than they are at present.
Setting up a server is easy but getting it performance tuned for a very large site is the tricky part
