Contacts Component

Post by daebat » Mon Oct 15, 2007 5:21 pm

I am currently supporting a non-profit organization called Crisis Pregnancy Center.  We are using the Contacts component initially installed with joomla, but they aren't getting any of their e-mails.  I have set up test accounts and sent them to my personal e-mail successfully, but for some reason it wont send to their verizon based e-mail addresses.  An associate and I went out to the organization and tried working through their e-mail system without any success.  The only thing we can think of, is that verizon is blocking the e-mails as spam.

Hi, Chad ~

You may need to suggest that users whitelist your email addresses so they can go through.

Also, it's not out of the realm of possibility that Verizon IS blocking your messages. See http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/27/us/27verizon.html

Good luck!

Most all email clients have a way to designate an email sender as "safe" or "not spam". Adding an email sender to this list is called whitelisting.

You mentioned that your recipients may have their emails blocked by Verizon. What does that mean? Verizon is their ISP?

Oh, I'm not sure that it was blocked by Verizon, I just think that may be the reason why it isn't working.  They have e-mail hosting through verizon, ([email protected]) and their entire faculty doesn't receive e-mails sent from their site.  I have successfully sent test e-mails to myself, so I know it's not the component.

Unfortunately, that's the extent of my suggestions..... If I were you, I'd find out what email client they're using and send the client instructions for adding an email address to a whitelist. As web developers, we can only control so much of the end user's settings, and it sounds like you're covered.

I use a different contact component for my staff pages that also allows for biographies and other settings that works for our school. It is com_peoplebook but it is now difficult to find. If you would like to take a look at the component you can see it on our site http://www.newfrontierscharter.org/index.php?option=com_peoplebook&Itemid=250 This component does not use the joomla! for the email but rather is mailto: link that uses your default mail program. If you like what you see you can email from the page to test it out or just email me from the link provided. I have also posted my modified English version. This also requires the GD library for the staff pictures

ok, I didn't want to resort to using an outside component, but it seems that it's the only way to go.  Thanks for the help and the components. :)
