Joomla Home Site Question -

Post by ScabbyUK » Sat Nov 03, 2007 2:48 am

Now this is a pathetic trivial question but one I just gotta ask as it's a 5 on the annoying scale.

When you are looking through a list at http://www.joomla.org, if you select an item, say in a search list on the extension section. If it's not what your looking for if you click back the page refreshes and moves you back to the top of the page.

Is there a way to return you to the same position as before? I have seen this before however I'm not sure if its a browser setting or the site, the latter I would have thought.

It's only a small thing but it's suprising how many times it narks at me.

Scab's

do you mean the back button on the browser interface?

If so, whats happening is that your re-submitting the forum data and then you would potentially get different results.  Your not viewing the page you were before, but are viewing a new page.

There is no site Back option hence you or anyone for that matter has to hit the back button, the page refreshes and your back at the top.
Then you have to scroll back down the list to get to where you were before.
thats me point

I beleive the page is beign re-processed, hence unlike a static page, you get pushed to the top.

If its beign re-processed your really looking at a new page (even though it seems to be an old page).  Im not positive, but I beleive this to be the case.  Guess it depends if your Browser is requesting the page from the server or if it is pulling it from cache.

ScabbyUK - I'm lost. What list on Joomla.org? I don't even see a list there!

I'm certain I am missing the obvious,

I beleive there is HTML meta data that tells the browser how long to keep the cache and when to refresh.

Its been awhile... sorry I cant point you closer.

Go to Extensions and search for an item, say photo gallery. You start scrolling down and see one you think may do what you want. You select it to read more and find it isn't what your after, click [BACK] on the browser (as there is no option on the page) and the list gets refreshed and your at the top again. Then you have to scroll down to where you were before to carry on looking. If you select another you have to do it all again!
I know its a small point but in my eyes it's a -2 on a site usability rating
