Is there any way is view a demo of 1.5?
The joomla.org demos are offline

Look at the top of the forum list... there is a 1.5 theme contest... that will allow you access to the default 1.5 site... there is a CMS review site that also provides this, but I am not sure they are doing 1.5 yet.  If you want admin access... I don't know what to tell you, but I think a demo site is a poor way to test out the administration of a CMS system. 

There are great articles on how to choose a CMS system.  I have read quite a few of them in my journy to prevent me from getting to the... ohh #%@$ i cant do this with the software... I just spent 3 weeks, and my software will now be tossed.
