two bad votes in 2 hour ....
Hi,
SOBI2 got 2 bad votes within, I believe, no more than 2 hour.
I had the page extension open (154 votes, first position).
After some time I had to kill my Firefox and start it new and I saw the listing in JED (156 votes, third position).
It's really sad
Kind regards,
Neo

Hi Neo,
I looked throught the votes and the voters you refer to and I'm confident that they both are valid. Actually one of the two voters liked your extension.
If you suspect that something could be wrong or if you want us to check up something. Please PM or email us and we are happy to look into it.

Re: two bad votes in 2 hour ....
Hi Lorenzo,
I cannot prove it and this is just a suspicion but this is very strange that SOBI2 got 2 negative votes within so short time.
I didn't know that this was only one bad vote
Thanks a lot and kind regards,
Neo
PS: One bad vote + one good vote and we going 2 place under ??

Re: two bad votes in 2 hour ....
Hi,
this issue raised by neo is affecting (on a different scale of course) my extensions too... I noticed, for instance, that the Search Category is very "competitive". I used to be at 1st place with my SearchCloud module than I got some bad votes that made the average go suddenly down.
As in one previous post I think that there are 2 solutions to this:
1. No anonymous voting
2. Median instead of average
Please do not discard this issue as this affects the overall quality of the Joomla! Experience. Users need to be properly informed of the quality of an extension and this website has a responsibility of assuring that the voting/rating system is a correct indicator.

Hi Pietro,
nice to see You here
I think it's not so easy to do this right. Every solution has own disadvantage too. I just cannot understand why some people giving bad votes without to have reason for it. I don't know any extension which is so bad that it deserves 1 point from 5. Whatever ...
Kind regards,
Neo

Re: two bad votes in 2 hour ....
Hi there!
Well, my opinion is that there might be extensions that deserve poor votes. However, if an extension receives 1 or 2 poor votes after it has received 6-7 excellent votes and 2-3 excellent reviews, it sounds kind of strange.
Still, let's assume that the user has truly had a poor experience with my extension... I, as a developer, would like to know what caused the bad experience in order to correct it. A vote that is not expressed anonymously might give me a chance to try and contact the user in order to understand more.

Re: two bad votes in 2 hour ....
My opinion is that both a 1 and 5 votes are both equal not representing a real life situation. Nothing is really bad, and nothing is perfect. The system isn't perfect, and most likely never will be. We are trying to get it better with each new release.
One of the changes in the next update will be a new button for 'Support', so it's easier to find where a user can find support regarding an extension.
One thing will not change, we'll not share information about registered users on the extensions directory with anybody.

If 1 is the same as 5 (since they both do not represent real life situation), what's the point of a ratings website?

The behavior I am talking about has nothing to do with support, it's about giving poor votes intentionally to decrease the rating of an extension.
In general, though, the "support" button is a good idea.

Nobody asked you to do that. I can reply when a user reviews my extension but I'm powerless if I get a poor vote: I don't know why and I can't express my point of view.

Re: two bad votes in 2 hour ....
I want to add that unfortunately, many members use a 2-scale rating when they vote. If they like the extension they give a 5 star vote and if they don't like it or if they of any other reason aren't happy, then they give it a 1 star vote.
In my personal view, the reviews are more important measure how good an extension is and how the user experience have been.
We are looking after such behaviours (and also intentionally to increase) in JED. Many times, this is connected with interests in other extensions.

I totally agree! That's what I meant above with "No anonymous voting".

Re: two bad votes in 2 hour ....
In my personal opinion, votes are too black/while. Votes in itself say nothing about anything about an extension without proper reasoning. Personally I do the following when deciding to give extensions a go:
* Look at the reviews.
* Look at the number of days an extension was updated
* Check out the website from the extension developer to see if it's active and maintained.
One option would be to only let people vote who write a proper review of an extension. Problem there is that the number of reviews naturally is much lower than the number of voters. However, if I'd known when the Extensions Directory started how much moderation time it takes to deal with people voting down others (which got less when tools were build to detect those), I would probably have chosen for this system. We've had way too many extension developers who see it as a match and gave their own extensions the maximum votes, or worse, vote down extensions in the same category.

This is exactly the point. The good idea is, I think, to split the rating in few points (installation, documentation, support, user friendly etc) like eBay do, or like JReviews can.
It will be also easy to found out which votes are fake votes.
But this is lot of work I think.
Kind regards,
Neo

The other option, would be to wieght the votes (ok, it's getting complicated, but)... A vote by itself counts as 1 vote, but a vote tied to a review counts as 2... That way you can get a feel for how many people don't like an extension, but are willing to say something about it...
