A local non-profit environmental group needs a little help with a template.
Specifically we want to figure out how to collapse the left column on certain pages, such as the Fireboard Forums, to take full advantage of the width.
And, we'd like to implement a cascading or tiered topmenu.
The template we're starting from is JJ_Serenity, if you're familiar with that.
Thanks,
cra2

Re: Environmental Non-Profit needs small help with template
The trick to turning off the items in the left sidebar on certain pages is found in the module manager. (Modules -> Site Modules)
Take a look at each of the modules that is currently published in the "left" position.
When you open one, on the right side of the screen you will see a list of all of the menu items on your site. You can specify which pages that module appears on there. So, basically, you need to click on all of the pages except your forum page. (Hold the control key down when clicking so you can select multiple pages).
You'll need to repeat that process for all of the modules in the "left" position.
That should leave them "on" for all pages except the forum. Then, when you are in the forum, it will go full width.
Now, as far as how to implement a drop down menu system for this template, I can't really answer that. I notice that JoomlaJunkie offers (for $20) an advanced version of this template which includes the drop down menu (called a "suckerfish" menu) which may be of interest to you.
There are several "free" drop down menu systems listed in the Joomla Extensions directory, like Extended Menu, D4J Transmenu and swMenu.
For information on swMenu, Take a look here: http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/
and here: http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/
D4J Transmenu: http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/
Extended Menu can be found here: http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/
It's very powerful, but can be difficult to configure.
I hope that helps, at least a little.
