Extensions comments ranking - please change to list by most

Post by cjcj01 » Wed Jan 09, 2008 1:08 pm

Guys - Thanks for a great site.  :D

Just wanted to post a request for a change to the Extensions Directory...

The list of User Reviews seems to be ranked by Number of people who found this review helpful rather than date.

This is actually really frustrating as a lot of extensions l'm looking at downloading have reviews from 2006 as the top posting and they relate to a much older version of the product. E.g. I've just been looking at WYSIWYGPRO here:

http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,viewlink/link_id,529/Itemid,35/

The review at the top is from Nov 2006.  Who cares that 3 out of 3 people found it a useful review?  >:( The review relates to version 2 of the extension rather than the new version 3 recently released and most of the issues have been addressed in the developers demo site.

As such - can the default comments listing please be changed to date?  Also it makes it impossible to follow a thread of comments.

Thanks for considering it.  :)
Chris

I agree. This is a part of the larger aging process problem. Votes, favorites, and reviews become increasingly irrelevant as extension upgrades are made. I can see that it adds quite a bit of data complexity, but it'd be very valuable if all of these were tied (and sortable) by the extensions version. I think that would solve the problem cjc01 raises, while keeping the historical votes available (in case that has value).

Hey Rliskey - great idea -  :D commeting via version number would be great, however I imagine it's quite difficult to incorporate existing comments into this..?

If extensions were just listed by date, at least the latest review would correspond more accurately to the latest version number...

yes i would be great to have this kind of feature too. So you won't have to browse per page of comments to find which ones are the latest. :)

Ok, here is the deal:
If you start naming the "comments" as reviews, then we will keep the live change that was implimented a few days ago ~ reviews are now sorted by date ;)

Hope you like this change :)
