Re: OpenSEF not available at http://extensions.joomla.org/ ?
To Brad:
When it comes to SEF Components, I do compare... because I want the best possible option to get my Joomla sites ranking high in Google.
And I have used SEF Advanced, OpenSEF, JoomSEF (aka ArtioSEF aka 404SEF) and RemoSef as well.
They all have had some troubles, and still do...
Biggest problem with SEF Advanced now is the IONCube protection not running on PHP5, so I had to completely switched over to OpenSEF.
I think having OpenSEF back on the extensions sections would be a great value for use Joomla Webmasters!
Some people who are looking to make Joomla more SEO come to the extension site to find out.
To Predator:
Please bring in the RC5 version, it is good, and stable!!
I know your are working with the Guys of Joomlatwork who make the SEF Path for Joomla.
Please integrate them on the next Joomla release
This killer combination of those to items in a Joomla 1.0.11 website makes me rank on several Dutch keywords nr One on several of my sites.
And if you search in Google for "Joomla Optimization".... you will find my website...
P.s. Thank you all Guys (and Girls) for working so hard on this Great CMS !!

Hummerbie,
Good work. Congratulations. It would be interesting to have a contest, choosing a keyword and seeing who pops up on top.

Re: OpenSEF not available at http://extensions.joomla.org/ ?
After getting clickthrough sites at the usual URLs, I could only find information about OpenSEF doing a search and sifting through all the old threads to get to this one...
Point blank -IMHO, Joomla is not worth the install without OpenSEF unless you are not concerned with traffic from sources other than your own personal references. OpenSEF is clearly the MOST IMPORTANT component I have and possibly the most critical fix for Joomla that exists. Unfortunately Joomla is a mess when it comes to SEO / SEF and something that the Drupal folks constantly remind me of and asking why I've kept investing in Joomla. There is nothing else that works nearly as well and encoding this portion of your site functionality is a great way to kill the long term capabilities of your site.
I sympathize with Ken and Marko and know what it's like to not be appreciated. As a result you just feel like it's worth taking everything down and letting them all just get the picture by realizing how much better the Joomla world is with OpenSEF in it than the huge void there is without it. To hell with them all...The problem is that "them" consists of a lot of unappreciative whiners (or kids who believe everything should be handed to them) who cannot be easily extracted from the mix and they will ALWAYS be there. The only solution is to ignore them and find good ways to handle some of the issues -- like the bad reviews -- which should not be taken to heart. Most people can read through the stupid comments easily. Many scripts finally have a "reply" feature where the author could talk back - I think that would be a great addition. I would also like it if there would be a better way to categorize the extensions so you can find all SEO/SEF products quickly.
No matter how popular a kid you are there will always be a handful of morons who will be either too dense or jealous to appreciate you. You can never win over everyone. You've won over a tremendous number of people in this community and I think that the inability for ANYONE to get SEF done properly is a testament to the INCREDIBLE work you've done. I could only wish that this area is taken as a #1 priority for Joomla 1.5 since it's critical and affects everything else
Tell me what you need for my support and I'm glad to assist. There are plenty of us. The idiots are just always more vocal because they have wasteful, vengeful energy to expend...

Well said and spoken for all those who have gone unspoken.
Re: OpenSEF not available at http://extensions.joomla.org/ ?
I feel the need to add my $0.02 here for what it's worth.
I looked at a few SEF components, and settled on OpenSEF because it looked by far to be the best one. I'm not a big programmer by any means but I can muddle my way around inside things. I installed this with no problems. I personally think it should be integrated into Joomla's core. That would then make Joomla by far the best cms option out there. That's all I'm going to say. Oh, and THANKS to everyone's hard work for everything!

Re: OpenSEF not available at http://extensions.joomla.org/ ?
Hi,
This thread hasn't been active for a year now. And I'm still wondering if some of the issues (I've read some interesting posts here) have been dealt with, a solution, or an alternative. Because I'm using OpenSEF for my multi-site feature, and I was wondering if I should continue using it, or if I should look for other extensions since I have around 80 subsites to develop. So far I'm liking OpenSEF. There are no links or forums available for OpenSEF. I can't find any site that would say if OpenSEF has been updated to be compatible with Joomla 1.0.13? It's just too bad if there is no continuation for this great tool.

Re: OpenSEF not available at http://extensions.joomla.org/ ?
The original OpenSEF operation has folded, but a new developer has taken up the cause. You may find it here.
http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/
I'm still using it under the OpenSEF packaging, which is apparently the same. It's a default install on my !J sites.
I've never used the mutli-site feature. How does it work, and how are you using it?

Re: OpenSEF not available at http://extensions.joomla.org/ ?
com_opensef_2.0.0-RC5_SP2.zip is a NuSEF package. I see. So that's what I've been using the whole time!
But it says "The current version is an exact copy of the latest OpenSEF release." So that would still not answer my question if it's compatible to joomla 1.0.13. But since that version (Sunglow) was only released last july 2007, and that this extension was updated last 214 days ago, that would conclude that this extension isn't updated to Joomla 1.0.13.
Well i'm only using the Manage Friendly URLs and the Manage Sites features, which basically modifies the URL to
/sitename/categoryORsection/page-name.[ext]
I'm currently using Joomla 1.0.12 but I want to upgrade it to 1.0.13. Since I've got OpenSEF, or in this case, NuSEF, already installed, and it's obviously not compatible to Joomla 1.0.13, then that leaves me with two choices. (1) do nothing and stick to 1.0.12 version. (2) upgrade to 1.0.13 and then find a better SEF extension compatible to that but then I have to start all over again in establishing new URLS for my (phantom) subsites ....
Are you working with multi-sites as well?

Re: OpenSEF not available at http://extensions.joomla.org/ ?
It is compatible. I'm using Joomla 1.0.13a on many of my installs. I haven't cared to bother upgrading to the latest 1.0.14 version. But it ought to work there as well. Simply because a new version of Joomla arrives doesn't mean every component, module and plugin will not work unless it too is upgraded.
I have never got around to testing or figuring out what multi-sites does. That you had, which is why I asked.

Re: OpenSEF not available at http://extensions.joomla.org/ ?
That is great. So I could upgrade my site to 1.0.13. Really, there's already 1.0.14 version. That was fast. Anyway, thanks for this!
