Download Joomla

Post by eyezberg » Sat Nov 19, 2005 3:11 pm

I just redownloaded J!, using the link on the frontpage.

I expected the click on "download now" to open the save dialog for the file,
instead I was sent to Forge, with a page presenting various links..
Now, I know how this all works, a first-timer wanting to try out J! imho not necesserily.

Why not make it as easy as possible for potential new users, and link the latest file
(as it says download 1.0.3, so if I click this, I'm not looking for any of the prev' versions and or patches..) ?
Sometimes one pays most for the things one gets for nothing.
The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. AE

I agree with Eyezberg 100%.
People who'd like to download previous versions (can't think of a sensible reason to do that) should be able to find their own way.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will pass them on to the rest of the team. However this method is nothing new, AFAIK we used the exact same method with mamboforge.

Hello, please excuse my poor english.

I have a suggestion. Everytime i install Joomla (for friends, colleagues ...) on our server, i use a shell to setup the applications.
While downloading "Gallery" (gallery.menalto.com) i get a real download link, which i can usw with wget. For Joomla i cant get a real download link.

In my opinion it would be nice to get a real download link, usable with wget. (Or are there some wget options, that allow downloading joomla from the official site?)

Best regards

Andre

Maybe it's a good idea to put a download button in main top navigation so you can download right away wherever you are on Joomla.org. What do you guys think?
