New forum search blows

Post by norman » Wed Feb 13, 2008 10:06 am

I tried searching these forums using the google search at the top and each result I go to opens a new window and brings me back to the main screen. I know there is a phpbb search function in each forum, but it would be nice to have a phpbb search function across all forums and not the google search. Those results don't seem to link back to the right topics yet.

Thanks

Agree. Is there anywhere that explains the reason for switching from SMF to PHPbb?

Doesn't the "google search" mean that it's looking at the pages indexed in Google ?

Because ALL the links have changed, I wouldn't expect it to work at all ;D

It will take some time to get back on our feet.. and then.. run a re-index so we can use the forum native search by default. That being said.. forum search does work.. just not as easy to find... on purpose.. at the moment.

So share the secret. How do you search now?

Try going into any forum or thread, and looking directly to the right of "New Topic" and "Post Reply"

;)

Thanks. I hope the fixed version searches all forums (well it should allow selection of which one), because with so many it's hard to know which one too search in.

To search, you have to manually enter the url search.php

The current design blows to the max. Avatars on the right? No quick replies? Login form at the bottom? Lousy security? MySQL4? Low load capacity?

Yes its indeed terrible.
google shows over a 180.000 indexed pages and they are useless now..

And why that custom google seach on top ?
Please people dont use that :) but search.php instead.

Oh, come come. The forums now are faster than they ever were with SMF, you just have to be patient and wait for mods like Quick Reply to be added in the future. I'm actually starting to enjoy the Avatars on the right. I really don't care who posted something right away, I just want to know what was posted.
The theme will be changed, and extras will be added. Would you rather have the forum at least working, or all kinds of goodies on a forum that you can't even get onto because it's broken?

Thanks for all the support... the people who have been working for weeks behind the scenes appreciate the encouragement.

NOT!

Come on people.. give us a break. What we've done is no small task, we're all unpaid, and well, there are issues, but in time we will get to sorting them out.

mysql5 is on the radar, so is quick reply, so is a search re-index so that the phpbb3 search becomes useful.

It says : # Rochen, and brad from http://www.rochen.com - Host of all Official Joomla sites

assuming your "brad" you host it all cause your a good guy ?
Im sure you must make a penny here and there?
Dont take all here as complaints cause they aren't.
Basically were offering our valuable and unpaid feedback as well.
Were all letting you know what things we run into that doesnt work well.

I am just one of 100's who are part of the Joomla project, and yes, we are unpaid. Nothing would be enough for the time I have spent this week on this migration.

Stop moaning, and give us a break.

Hey Brad,

while I've caught you here on the forums.....I used to use a customized link like this:

Code: Select all

http://forum.joomla.org/index.php?action=unread;boards=8,32,34,35,36,39,40,41,42,46,267,268,372

to check unread topics. How might the syntax change to accomplish something similar on the new forum? (does'nt work anymore :( )

search.php?search_id=unanswered

But as for the extras.. maybe you can find out from phpbb.com's forum?
