However, while it prevents you from reading it, it also prevents the entire database locking up. I'll hopefully get it sorted tomorrow.. thanks for your patience.

Be creative - just "reply" to the topic and look at the topic review until it is fixed - that seems to work.
(And btw: phpBB3 is certainly much better than version 2 regarding "bugginess" and "unsecureness".
Just be a bit patient - would you expect a conversion to run completely without errors and problems?)

Oh my god ... I'm trying hard to find issues with Joomla! and spend a lot of time to check core while working on several own extensions and templates and doing work to earn my income. Do you really expect me to tinker with an installed software where I have no influence at all?

Such a conversion is nothing more than transfering data. I'm doing this since more than 20 years from one database system to the next as well as from one application to the next and vice versa. Have a look at catalog systems from car manufacturers for their dealers and you can see the level being reached.

So, where is your problem with forum software?
Nothing tested before implementation on live server? Tough luck.

And ... Yes, I expect to reach 99,5% of functionality with first run at live system at least. This can be tested before activation. It may take some more time to do some tests but, this doesn't make me look unprofessional.

Design is something what can be fixed without effort when system is worth to be used (FONT SIZE!!!).

Well, I believe this has been discussed in several topics already. phpBB3 has a plugin concept for key infrastructure functions and a hook concept for CMS integration.
Also, I'm aware of a few approaches hiding core changes by using a shiny admin interface for patch files - that doesn't make them anything other than core changes.

Anyhow, getting a system running in reality is non-trivial. No plan survives the first contact with reality; tuning takes a few days.
