Separate Extensions by 1.0 and 1.5

Post by t17169 » Fri Feb 08, 2008 2:54 pm

It would make life much easier if the extensions were separated by which Version they are compatible with.  Yes, I know you can use advanced search and specify 1.5 compatibility, however, as I face the decision on which Version to use for new sites, it would save a lot of search time which I could spend building if the two categories were separate.  Right now, even if I do a broad 1.5 search, the extension categories visible afterwards are not exclusively 1.5 and are both.  It seems the only way to be sure something is 1.5 compatible is to either know exactly what you are looking for or slowly open each extension and look at the actual compatibility...and then read reviews to see what problems may or may not exist with 1.5 compatibility.

Woo hoo! This would really be helpful for those of us who would like to help bring more popular extensions into full 1.5 compatibility. Looking forward to it. :)

This would be great, it is my biggest pet peeve regarding the extensions site.
Also would be great to search by code maturity (alpha, beta,RC,etc.)
Thanks for all the great work guys.

Yes I would agree. The single most important priority should be to separate 1.5 compatible extensions from the older 1.0 extensions. I would be glad to help.
Sincerely,

Linux ;)

What a nice feature it would be for the extension site. I also had trouble finding a component for my website and ended just giving up for now. Looking forward to be able to search for only 1.5 compatible extensions.

I posted this what seems like a long time ago now. I know it shows up as Feb. 8 due to migration. So I thought I would add another suggestion in the meantime that would help a bit. Somewhere on the intro of extensions, could you please add that they are 1.0 or 1.5? If, for example, I look at vertical markets, you have to open each and every listing to see the compatibility. In some categories, that can feel endless...648 in content and news! So, even if extensions were categorized 1.0 and 1.5 in the intro, that would save time.

You still have to use advanced search and then scroll through a long list if you're looking for 1.5 components, mods, etc. Be nice if under each category of extensions, there were 1.0 and 1.5 sub-categories. I'll volunteer to help with this if there's somewhere to post that offer.

It would also help if the 1.5 extensions included ONLY those that worked without using legacy mode.

yes, please. legacy mode add-ons annoy me to death when I'm searching for 1.5 adds. I personally feel legacy-mode adds shouldn't get the 1.5 icon (maybe should have their own icon) as many don't mention they require legacy mode in their descriptions and one only finds out after digging further and reading their website, or worse, actually installing (read as 'wasting time').
