That is how this community grew and that is how volunteers like it!!
If community doesn't complain they don't know where the problems are so for them it is like reporting bugs only.
I guess, I misunderstood between reporting and complaining. I see complains but hey, with your perspective, I have to agree that they are reports of bugs while using this forum because the mods were doing something at the back end.

One mod said..."PHPBB3 is stable!"

I believe in him.

With phpBB2, maybe. phpBB3 is a lot better at integration with other products, so I very much doubt whether the advantages would outweigh the disadvantages. A product like rokbridge shows that already a lot is possible with the "standard" phpBB3. The only area where more integration might be desirable is in templating, I think.

In-fact many features in phpBB 3.0 (hooks system comes to mind) and even inspirations for features in the development of phpBB 3.2 are as a result from dialogue with the Joomla! developers, so in a way, phpBB3 is influenced by Joomla!

If you can: pls Stay Away from Bridges! PHPbb3 is of an independent system, which means you have to load your joomla "core" (including frameworks, user management, and more) and then the forum... performance? Well is it better to use something like Fireboard for a performance gain ?

Have you seen how many times you see a void page? a SQL error page? a end-less waiting for dispalying new page? ???

Are you basing that off this forum? That's funny, because this isn't bridged at all. The SQL errors have been explained. The performance does seem slow sometimes, but for all problems on here goes: it's a brand new installation, allow the team some time to address start-up problems.

Yes phpbb3 is stable and I do agree with him and you. We need some time only before things get back to stable here. Few things are not working and I post in this thread and forums elsewhere also to just let mods know where the problems are so that they don't have to debug each and everything separately. At least they got an idea that where the problems are. . ,

Although I know what you mean by that, for clarity: it’s not strictly a brand new installation. -- It was a conversion, which opens up quite a few more cans of worms, and not just a basic conversion, but a very large modified conversion at that.

neward, you shouldn't see anymore "void" pages, as that was an error in one of the Modifications that the Joomla! team installed that has been fixed now.

Time will tell. My experience has been that two different software programs, written by two different teams, will take divergent paths that end up "breaking" the integration in ways from mundane to spectacular. I suspect that "rokbridge" is yet another program, from another group of people, that will have to be updated to work with Joomla, then phpBB, then Joomla again, and then phpBB, etc.

There's a reason the Joomla team doesn't integrate phpBB3 into the software for their official support platform (here!) If you are setting up a site with J! and need tight integration with a forum, use Fireboard. If you don't mind having separate log ins, then do what the team that builds Joomla does, choose the best forum software and keep it completely separate.

Just as a point of clarity RokBridge is actually a concerted effort by core developers and even project managers for Joomla! and phpBB. While the vast majority of the work was done by Johan on the development front, both projects worked together to help make this possible and in the end both code bases have been improved because of lessons learned along the way. It isn't as if some unrelated third party decided, oh I like Joomla! and phpBB ... lets bridge them. The first email on the subject was between phpBB's project leader and I... and the relationship has grown immensely from there. We thank the phpBB project for their help and collaboration and look forward to a happy and fruitful future.

What needs to be modified or hacked to get phpBB3 running stable?
I would also be curious to see this "known buggyness" of phpBB3?
Each piece of software without used interface for extension is a security risk. You can hide it as much as you want: Whenever an extension touches a single bit of core it decreases security.

Have you ever tried converting a board this large before?
Similar, and, from file based db to SQL based DBMS (gamer scene). This is a little bit harder to achieve because you don't have SQL being of help in such a case very often. Character sets play a big role than and cause real trouble. 8)

The volume of data is of no interest for such a conversion. Converter must be developed correct. Afterwards it doesn't matter to convert 1.000 or 1.000.000 data entries. This is only a question of time in technical sense.

edit:
Conversion mentioned has been a gamer's forum with far more than 2.000.000 impressions (!) per month. Target has been vBulletin.

just for adding more to my last post, if you use phpBB is normal that the joomla community will use the phpBB too. Probably by a bridge in its joomla site.

If there are problems in a stand-alone problems due to conversions and more stuffs, I can understand that all will be solved ASAP. phpBB was my first forum a lot of years ago and so I'm not against that forum...

hi,

Just wanted to say smf looked and felt and also operated way way better than this.
On my own site I use vb, however if given the choice I would take smf over phpbb anyday (after seeing this example here on joomla)

This installation still needs some "final touches" - in the meantime, http://www.phpbb.com/community/ and http://area51.phpbb.com/phpBB/ (testing board) are better examples to base a decision on...

Hi, please fix some small font errors. Font size is too small and font family does not support international language. (Browsing Vietnamese Forum with IE6)

Use the font changer icon at the top right of the page to change the font size to your desired size.
You probably used it to downsize the fonts as they were too big the first day the board was converted:

The Viet forum looks fine to me, unless this is wrong:

Hi, pls check Vietnamese Forum with Internet Explorer 6 then you will see. Otherwise, the layout have a bit problems: print icon and some others are not smooth, topic title is not separated in other line, some CSS problems in IE6...

Maybe "Search not working correctly" and "Board layout not final" could be added to this list? Also, maybe the thread should be made sticky. I think this would help reduce the repeated questions about some of the issues with the new board. While you're at it, maybe remove "today" from the title :)

Still mildly excited my favourite CMS chose my favourite board for their forums :)

Errrrrg, I found other bug: In Firefox, when you post a large picture, right piece will being overlap by profile block. See my previous post, I post this long picture: http://img50.imageshack.us/img50/3981/24205647mh1.png, then it displayed as you see.

This is a known "feature" of the prosilver phpBB template used here. I wouldn't call it a bug (but I'm placing those quote marks around "feature" very deliberately ;)), it works as designed. There are simply many considerations involved, no one solution is ideal - for my own board, I chose to add an automated resize JavaScript. There are ongoing discussions about it on the phpBB forums.

Indeed... the idea and priority is to preserve the layout, I much prefer this over subsilver(2), which would stretch the page so that the image could be displayed.

They all appear fine to me.
View source and see what you find in the content type line:

Code: Select all

<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />
You can also try a different browser.

The board is delivering the content in the correct encoding though.

I usually use optical fiber but not every homes has got this advantage and in friend's home when using his pc for showing him the great joomla community (he's still a php-nuker), well, we've seen little and less...

as you're working for improve our forum, well, is it possible to light our forum a little please?

Im not allowed to tell something negative but, here some comparison between this forum main page and main page of a forum currently in test by me in hosted environment:

phBB : test-forum = 20 : 1 in best case.

Test performed with "ap -c10 -n10" (apache profiler).
