change type for password in joomla 1.5

i want to integrate moodle 1.9 with joomla 1.5.
but its troublesome due to joomla's pasword field which appends salt along with md5 hashed string.

Have you tried contacting the ext writer?

NM... thought Moodle was a Joomla extension.

You would more than likely need to create a bridge application.
