Hi people,
I received an offer in my email from a company selling Joomla based websites and I wonder how legal their offer is.
Basically they are selling websites and hosting.
For 995 € you get a Joomla based website. Extra modules cost 25 €.
For the people not used to euros, 995 € equals 1550 USD and 25 € equals 40 USD.
I am not posting the URL, since I do not want to advertise for these people.
The work they do for this cash is set up the site with a template and incorporate your logo into it. That's all.
To get to my point. Is this legal? Can someone sell joomla and 3rd party modules (which they didn't create) for these amounts of money?
If it's not legal, who do I forward this information to?
Best regards,
François

Re: Selling Joomla based website with 3rd party components
You are asking a legal question and you haven't given a website for anyone to reference in answering that question, even if there were an attorney reading this. Please consult the Joomla terms of service for a direct answer to your question. Charging for labor is legal in the U.S. If they are charging a price to download the extensions with no value-added benefit, that is not legal.
From what little you have revealed, It sounds to me like this is perfectly legal. They are probably selling their labor, hosting space on their server, and customization of the software. As you may or may not know, the web host you choose is very important. It wouldn't be right to ask a professional to work on your automobile out of your garage using your potentially amateur tools. For the same reason, it is not fair to ask someone to create or admin your Joomla website on your webhost's server using your host's tools. That would be asking for a tech support nightmare.
If you want to send me the link to this company privately, I will be happy to look at it.
