Great, this is working for me. Validation is possible on w3.org. Thanks, Marko.

Hm... Emir addred 404 handling for missing content and components and 404 handling to SEF for unknown files, maybe is best that he looks at this problem...

I just 'downgraded' to 1.0.3 and now the 'overlib' error is gone... so it must be in the package....

I tried this sef.php in that zip files and it seems to have fixed the W3C 404 problem AND the CSS validation problem.
I will keep on checking.

This 'OLD' sef.php in the 105 version works when Joomla is NOT in root BUT works when Joomla is in a folder.

The 'NEW' sef.php fixes the 404 problem when put in root but does give a 404 error when joomla is in a folder.

Which new sef.php are you talking about?
Please use this one I posted here: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic ... #msg152961

I tried it both in folder and root and it should work.

I think there were 2
sef.php.zip and sef.zip

The one from sef.zip in root validatesOK for XHTML check NOT ok for CSS check,
I have to use the one from sef.php.zip in Joomla in a folder off the root and ivalidates OK for XHTML NOT ok for CCC

CSS checking error is:

Please, validate your XML document first!

Line 2

Column 6

Ok a slight rehash of my template fixed all the validation problems.

These templates validated before but after upgrading the core files, they showed errors when validating.
sef.php used = @version $Id: sef.php 1553 2005-12-24 17:04:09Z Saka $

Why? I don't know.

I can't speak for the dev team, but patches are normally not re-released. For the moment, Joomla 1.0.6 is scheduled for january. After testing on a testbed, I would patch and use the sef.php file provided by Saka. There is a problem with SEF in 1.0.4, that's the reason it was patched for 1.0.5.

This patch component include sef.php Bug Fix and Wrong ItemId Fix for Joomla! 1.0.5
3) Patch Files Package for those whom have permission errors issue to upgrade both of their Joomla! 1.0.4 Stable and JACLPlus by manually upload and replace all the files (MUST HAVE installed JACLPlus). This patch package include sef.php Bug Fix and Wrong ItemId Fix for Joomla! 1.0.5

What's new in this version?

I saw in the bugtracker that a safemode patch would be integrated in the next release, so I was very happy to see the 1.0.5 coming! But a safemode patch is not in it, will it be in 1.0.6?

Thanks for all the work and a happy 2006 for all the community  :D

I am surprised that the .htaccess file has not been fixed yet. The current .htaccess causes a huge strain on server resources and has caused one of my joomla sites on a hosted server to get suspended. This is only with core SEF enabled.

The current core .htaccess does not have any 404 page not found defined, and this can cause endless searching, alos the line
RewriteRule ^(.*) index.php is just bad news.  ???

here is how i am running .htaccess on my Joomla sites currently:

note the line: #RewriteRule ^(.*) index.php is commented out:

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
#RewriteRule ^(.*) index.php
RewriteRule ^content(.*) index.php
RewriteRule ^component/(.*) index.php
ErrorDocument 404 /t.php

Joomla People Rock!

Back to SEF . . .

My server (which I hope to be moving from in a few months) does not allow me to use htaccess files.  Because of that the built in sef does not work as written.  In 1.0.4 and earlier, there was a simple edit of the sef.php file which allowed the site to keep /index.php/ in the url.

With 1.0.5, I cannot find this same edit.  The urls are produced correctly, but the server doesn't like it and won't follow.  When I add index.php/ into the url the link works correctly.

Could someone point me to the code I need to edit so that /index.php/ is included in the produced url.

I have posted this issue in the components section of the forum with no response.

Thank you all and happy holidays,

AWC

My apologies  --  I uploaded the wrong file.  Thx saka for pointing it out.

There shouldn't be endless searching. If file is not phisically present on the site index.php will be processed.
If content is not found 404 header will be returned by the script.

mambosolutions_JB wrote:alos the line

We are moving towards 404 processing by the script itself. In the future there will be customizable 404 page and plugable SEF which require htaccess like this.

There is a situation where some loops could be created. That's if you have multiple installations of Joomla in subdirectories. Make sure every subdirectory has its own htaccess file, even to turn off mod_rewrite if you don't use SEF. Otherwise it will inherit htaccess from directory above and there can some problems arise.
