I agree, i'm playing with some hand written style of ideas. Also alot of san-serif fonts look cold, hard and laking in life and fun, which i guess isn't something we want.

Here's what i've done so far, something a bit different from most of the others (non san-serif), still ideas far from finished.

There are a ton of great designs here.
But I think we'd best wait for an arduous review session by branding and marketing professionals before we move forward.
Only after an arduous review session by branding and marketing professionals will we feel comfortable going with our gut decision in the first place.

Re: New Logo
Quick note... whilst I love the concept, we would probably run into problems with those designs incorporating the Open Source logo.

Re: New Logo
AND
==============================================================
For my 1 cents worth of opinion, I like the multi - colored hand-like logo, the grey font is too thin though [frail looking] and the red TM on the top right needs to be changed. - the wording on this font is not strong enough, probably in part because of the font style perhaps....
The 2nd one is nice but the OSM-like font/wording is too thick unlike the previous one, and eventhough I sure can't draw... what about the idea of somehow representing each part of the world or types of people on each of the letters of Joomla? this too green font is a bit boring/bland...
Sincerely,
Emmanuel Lemor.

I really like this one
But how about a Prince-like "squiggle" based on the letter J - then we can have the slogan "The CMS previously known as mambo"
But seriously - there are some good ideas coming out of this discussion so please give people time to submit plenty of ideas and then narrow down to 5 or 10 and then have a poll to decide the best.
Cheers, spinFX

Well, thought I'd give it a try. Here's my idea. Even added a slogan, don't know if someone came up with it already in the slogan portion of the forum.

I showed this page to my costumers and my family, and this logo with all the varieties was catching on all of them. It is nice, it is fitting with every design, it is eye catching - Just perfect. I cant believe what I see over night this thread was filled with such good logos - RESPECT
Arent we all a little joomla?

Re: New Logo
Don't want to hurt anyone's feelings but I think something very important has been forgotten by many when creating the logo. It comes from the very first post by the admin:
"Please note that the logo should be easily repoducable in small and large sizes..."
I've been working in the graphic design business for over 7 years now and I can tell you most of these multi-colored surrounded by boxes will not reproduce well. When you design a logo you should always design in black and white first. Color should not make a strong logo, the design itself should. Stay away from bevels and shadows. Even watch the amount of gradients used. You need to think about the simplest applications of the logo like silkscreening on a small promotional item like a pen. If your logo bleeds togehter and is hard to read when it is shrunk down to .5" x .5 then it's probally better to explore a different direction.

Re: New Logo
I kinda like the hand, however it reminds me of a Kokopelli, a common character on the South West part of United States, I don't want to copy/paste an image here but do a search on google for it. Is a small character well know among all tribes and places in the South West.
The hand when converted to a small gif looks like the head of the Kokopelli. and the colors wash out.
The logo needs to be scalable.

I agree 100%
I wonder how many of us graphic designers there are here.
Re: New Logo
There are a lot of great ideas here! I wanted to go for something that was not to cartoony, but still fun. I loved the colorful hand so I tried using it in these. The logo section could be easily changed. I have noticed a lot of people like the "open source cms simplicity"
Re: New Logo
Reminds me of a Beatles song:
Core Dev has a barrow in the market place
Robert is a singer in a band
Core Dev says to Robert - boy I like your code
And Robert says this as he takes them by the hand
(Chorus)
Joom-la-dee
Joom-la-da
Life goes on bra
La La how the life goes on
(Verse)
In a couple of years they'll have built
A Home Sweet Home
With a couple of CMS in the yard
of Robert & Core Dev Team.
(Chorus)
Joom-la-dee
Joom-la-da
Life goes on bra
La La how the life goes on
(Verse)
Happy ever after in the market place
Core Dev lets the newbies lend a hand
Robert stays at home and codes a pretty site
And in the evening he still sings with the gang
(Chorus)
Joom-la-dee
Joom-la-da
Life goes on bra
La La how the life goes on
Again, apologies to all...

Okay, my graphics skills aren't great, the items aren't properly lined up and spaced, etc., etc... but you get the idea:
