Reason For Outage (RFO) - Official Joomla Sites - Connectivity Issues

Post by Rochen » Mon Mar 20, 2006 12:56 pm

Starting at approximately 1200 GMT / UTC on Monday, March 20th 2006 the data center where the Joomla server is located began to experience connectivity problems. This issue lasted for around 30 minutes and has now been resolved. The issue was a data center wide incident and affected several hosting providers and was not specific to the Joomla server.

Thank you for your understanding :)

Site Downtime

Post by ivo.apostolov » Mon Mar 20, 2006 12:59 pm

In the past few weeks the downtime of the site is too much I think. Currently I had no connection for about 1 hour

Please see: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,47968.0.html

There have been no problems at all with the server the past week or so - it has been totally stable. Unfortunately, nobody can stop issues like connectivity problems from occurring.

Strange, I had no problems in accessing the forge

The forge is hosted in a totally different data center, that's why :)

It is the same as when the forge has been down before the forums etc. have all been up. As I noted in the other thread this issue was not specific to the Joomla server which has not been down, but was a data center wide connectivity issue affecting several hosting providers and a few thousand servers.

I agree, but generally this doesn't solves the problem in accessing the web site and the subdomains like the help, forums, extensions.

There is geographically redundant DNS setup for the joomla.org domain so although the Joomla server was not reachable the Forge was still up. This is why we have clustered DNS in place, so that if the Joomla server is down then the Forge will still be up and running. Like I said, this was a simple connectivity issue at the data center which has now been resolved. There was no problem with the server itself.

Thank you for your understanding :)

I understood that. The problem is not in the server but the connectivity, which doesn't solves the situation, but as I also understand this is out of your control.
