Registration Mail

Post by hefi » Fri Sep 02, 2005 7:32 pm

Hi there,

my mailserver rejected your registration mail and reported:

RCPT from unknown[65.254.35.66]: 450 Client host rejected: cannot find your hostname, [65.254.35.66]; from= to=< censored > proto=ESMTP helo=

what means, that the reverse lookup failed.

so i added atlanta.directrouter.com manually to the accepted sites.
...and fortunately, the registration mail was retried by your site and was delivered correctly, so i was able to login here.

i think, i'm not the only one with this problem, so i posted here.

greetings and all the best

A solution to this might be to configure the forum to use SMTP instead of sendmail, but this would be less efficient.

I'm afraid exim/etc. configuration is not my specialty, but you want to make nobody's emails use the Return-Path and similar that the forum specifies....

RDNS entried have now been added. I think that will solve the problem. :)

I'm afraid, that this will last a while.
Because I should get some notifcation mails, I am watching the logs of my mailserver and the errors still occur.
My manual entry was _NOT_ the reason that my registration mail was received, but the (only one) correct connect from your site.

see log entry from the only one correct session:
Sep  2 20:08:30 atlas postfix/smtpd[27121]: connect from atlanta.directrouter.com[65.254.35.66]
Sep  2 20:08:30 atlas postfix/smtpd[27121]: 6FB1013A8B: client=atlanta.directrouter.com[65.254.35.66]
Sep  2 20:08:30 atlas postfix/smtpd[27121]: disconnect from atlanta.directrouter.com[65.254.35.66]

all other connects (8) where like this one (recorded approx. 15 muinutes ago):
Sep  3 00:38:50 atlas postfix/smtpd[4424]: connect from unknown[65.254.35.66]
Sep  3 00:38:50 atlas postfix/smtpd[4424]: NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from unknown[65.254.35.66]: 450 Client host rejected: cannot find your hostname, [65.254.35.66]; from= to=< censored > proto=ESMTP helo=
Sep  3 00:38:50 atlas postfix/smtpd[4424]: disconnect from unknown[65.254.35.66]

The question is: Why did atlanta.directrouter.com connect with the correct servername only 1 time?

Brad, any ideas?

Afer that, about 10 sessions were okay and 2 hours ago again 2 without hostname and afterwards 2 correct sessions with hostnamwe.

Of course not registration mails, but notifications.
So change thread title to something else?

???

Perhaps try using another email address/server. We have had no other reports of this happening to anyone else.

Done.
Perhaps others have not such restrictions on their mail servers  (need full qualified hostname).
I keep an eye on that, 'cause it is very inconvenient for me to use the other address.
