Woah, 65 pages already... too much! This is also a long post, but please bare with me, and think about these points.

All together now... say "Symbolism!"
I wish that everyone that submits a suggestion for a new logo write a slogan that fits and also describe the symbolism!
Use more time, don't just make logos in a hurry and submit here... take time to think it over - does it make sense, does it reflect what the devs have already chosen to say about the project? On Joomla.org we have: Flexible, Simple, Elegant, Customizable, Powerful + community and togetherness

I think it's no use making variations of the flower from Mambo - if you want ideas for a graphic/icon/mascot - how about something with more symbolism: A honeybee, flying towards the sky. Implies that it has extracted the best from the flower, and is now moving on, going to higher grounds. Still, I think we should move far, far away from anything Miro - we have joined the people who took a clear stance against Miro.

The Mambo flower was based on the asterix, as a symbol of coding and Linux, nice feat (although I never got it :P ). Especially after this whole project change, I think what should be in focus is the community, or the cooperation (between users, and users-devs alike). This community is truely unique, and the length of this thread only goes to prove it - but be more concious of this when starting on your logo suggestions! If you include an animal - explain why, if you include a shape, explain what it is. Simple (like the cms is, remember)...

A few notes on the suggestions in this thread:
Santapec's Jbird: The bird looks like it is going to crash! Or, has already crashlanded - make it point upwards, or at least horisontal. Nice and clean, which I guess is a must, but the shape makes it somewhat hard to use?

DeGrey's: Nice shape, very clean and versatile - but it relies on the exclamation mark - this is not even part of the domain (joomla.org) - should be a more specific message from devs on this :\

peekmambo's hand: While very nice graphicwise, what does it say? It is a strong symbol that people would easily recognize - but what's the meaning behind it? Does the hand say Hello or Goodbye, or maybe Stop? Could be Strength, and the whole thing about taking a stand - but for how long will that be an active point? Miro is soon forgotten, hehe. And sorry, I really do not see the resemblance to the letter "j" in there? Please start with a new idea, but be sure to use the same excellent graphical skill, props for effort.

antonyvilleger's first: This is very nice, very clean and versatile. The font reminds me a bit of Yahoo, is it perhaps too similar? Anyway, I wanted to note that the symbol above could be tweaked a bit to show box shapes - and then symbolise "cms - out of the box" or "cms to go - out of the box"... well, something like that

Quaoar's Kokopelli: Rjs' post states my thoughts exactly: This is the only suggestion so far that really fits the name. Joomla just says jungle to me.. tribal, mystic, bongos etc. This suggestion expresses just that. How about mixing this with the Ubuntu logo in some way? We are all crazy keyboardmonkeys :)

Rant roundup
Hope I didn't offend too many people :P - I am serious though - by posting here you take up a lot of people's time, so you should have spent some of your own time on it in advance. Of course, brainstorming is always good, but reposting lots of times, and just changing one color? Nah, leave it for now - and do a stronger comeback when there's an official contest or whatever it's gonna be. Enough rant!

BTW: ptlpc's treasuremap and song = hilarious :D
And please do not summarize images in this thread - do it somewhere else! If it has been posted, people have seen it.

I don't think is realy necessary, look at this examples:
-linux logo  -> penguin
-mysql logo -> dophin
-nike        -> bow
-adidas    -> sleve

Sorry I haven't read the 60 some pages before this post. So forgive me if I say anything already said.

I think in the nature of Open Source you should make the logo the same idea. As an artist (and not a programmer) it would be nice to be able to make my own logo and also see other people's logos. It would just be a cool thing.

Having software made by a community of people would also be great to have at the end {LOGO} with the text "logo provided by ____"

The previous colors look too much like Olympics.  Let try with a different colors.

Here goes!

The slogan is "The ring of team work!"

I think this is on of the better disgns! A coulored hand standing for the mixed community we are.
Maybe slide the hand under Joomla!, symbolizing the community Carrying Joomla!

I don't think is realy necessary

I agree, just in your first post where you presented the hand, you wrote "if you notice it is all composed by small j's." No biggie, was just wondering if it was something I didn't see.

.. I just wish everyone would take some more time to think about IF and HOW their logo resembles/shows the community spirit.

Hello everybody,

If french joomlers read these lines, a french contest has been launch, based on french proposals.
(Mambo 4.5.2.3 fr + templates based on proposals + RS gallery to vote)
Let us know if we forgot you.

Come on... and give your opinons!

PS for the whole community : This is not a concurrent contest, we only accept logos already posted here. We just want to enforce our relations.
May the forge be with you!
