Joomla! - Power & Ease without compromise.

Re: New slogan
I think a slogan should either say what the product does, or give a message of what the company stands for.
In the last case its sort of a mission statement. The Why of the company. The reason we exist.
Like Philips has "Sense and Simplicity" Its what the company wants to stand for. It wants to make products that are easy to use.
And
"Open Source Matters" thats what the users and developers of the 'the joomla company' stand for. We want to make a good open source CMS.
In “the art of the start” Guy Kawalski speaks of it as being a mantra.
Quote “The definition of mantra is:
A sacred verbal formula repeated in prayer, meditation, or incantation, such as an
invocation of a god, a magic spell, or a syllable or portion of scripture containing
mystical potentialities.
What a great thing a mantra is! How many mission statements evoke such power and
emotion? “
A few mantra examples are
• Authentic athletic performance (Nike).
• Fun family entertainment (Disney).
• Rewarding everyday moments (starbucks).
• Think (IBM).
You see that IBM uses his mantra as a slogan too. So you might say that Open Source Matters wouldn't be such a bad slogan.
On the other hand. Lots of companies stopped using slogans (like Nike or Apple for example). So why even bother.
If “open source matters” isn’t what we are searching for I agree with SineMacula eventhough i think that “in your site” would be better then “Set your Sites on it” because its too long in my opinion. Furthermore I think a slogan should me as short as possible because it makes it solide. (think by IBM, invent by HP, imagine by Panasonic)
Some cents from me then

Re: New slogan
Joomla - One CMS, infinite possibilities.
Note that this also ties in with some of the proposed logo/text designs where the two "O"s are joined to make the symbol for infinity.
One slogan that also caught my eye was, Joomla - Power your website.
It catches me because I'm not sure if CMS should be in the slogan. I know I didn't know what CMS meant for a long while after I started using postnuke, and I use the computer/internet a lot. However, something like "power your website" speaks to n00bs and pros alike. I'm not sure if I've heard something too similar to that before though. It could be tweaked anyways to something else.

My résumé
OK Folks,
I think this discussion is very close to the end. I really read carefully through that thread and personally I come to the following results:
I think Joomla needs a slogan
It has to be different from all explanatory elements. (Joomla! 1,2,3) (Joomla! BlaBlaBla) The advantages of Joomla should always be available by clicking the logo. So this could be done on the joomla.org website or one of the local portals.
The only suggestion in this thread that was strongly convincing was
Joomla! Your Website
I disagree the German argument - I am German!!!
Best wishes to all that care about OUR CMS

- "Joomla" is a name that does not need to be translated.
- "Website" is a common expression that is accepted by almost everyone that is using the internet and especially by all people that think about creating their one website.
- "Your" is probably the best known word of the English language not only in Germany. There is no need to translate it.
Best wishes to all that care about OUR CMS

I like your deep arguments but plz take into account that There are so many languages than you think of (German was my mother tongue, as per your information). So let us avoid to think to western languages, there are asian or arabic ones and so on.
you know that in thailand there is a powerful community of &ambo, ok and that in certain parts of the worlds there is even a french speaking people, etc. etc.
We have to think worldwide. So plz plz plz the only world not translatable must be Joomla! and stop it! Do you agree with me? I'd like a reply from you... and even from other joomlers. Hip hip hip Hurra for Joomla! - Joomla ist schön!

Re: New slogan
Ok we've seen lot of suggestions (i just went through 27 pages) an these are the ones that get the most positive feedback.
I have to say a lot of people are against using a slogan and for good reasons too. There aren’t to many company’s that work with a successful slogan.
Still here is the list.
Joomla! - All Together
Joomla! - All together now!
Joomla! - Open Source Matters
Joomla! - Set your sites on it!
Joomla! - Lets Rock!
Joomla! your website
Joomla! - Express Yourself
Joomla! - All together CMS
Joomla! - Power your website!
Joomla! - power of FREEdom
Joomla! - Collective Intelligence
Joomla! - Hello World
Joomla! - Simple. Powerful.
Joomla! - No boundaries!
Joomla! - Lets Joomla
Joomla! - Just Joomla
Joomla - content matters
Joomla – matters
Some remarks have been made about the different slogan about how it translates and that is shoot be different from any other slogan. Most company's don't even bother to translate a slogan neither should we. I still think Joomla could be a verb and that people usually get used to brandnames fast (mambo, google, yahoo, nike are all kinda weird but highly excepted). It’s a pitty intel scored the inside slogan, because it would have been nice (in site).

We are not a company! We are a community of people from everywhere. And your list is not perfect. Sorry but this is my impression... or a mistake of mine but I don't see some slogans...

27 pages!! I think that a complete list to compare is more democratic than your one. Please don't misunderstand my opinion, I think you've done an hard job. Eventually with an informative about the "points" received. But if you see your results... the list is very poor compared to 27 pages and regardless translating problems that received a "good point" in our talking about slogans in this thread.
But however sorry for my opinion, You deserve a clapping hands for your effort. Thanks MarkV and come on Joomla!

No one said the slogans have to be the same in every language (as in literal translations). Besides, the main Joomla site is and will be in english.
Re: New slogan
I hope it's not too late to contribute. I must admit, I skipped a couple of the 28 pages of this thread (so far), so maybe someone has already suggested this. How about:
Joomla! - Put it on the net... your way.
I don't think we should be kidding anyone that Joomla! is simple, because it just isn't. It is well designed and powerful. It may even be comparatively simple. But I'm afraid I found the "power in simplicity" line very annoying, because it just wasn't true.

It's a good idea. I never said to have got an "absolute" slogan. I said only that the slogan has to be a multi-lingual one
tonyskyday wrote:Besides, the main Joomla site is and will be in english.
No problem, this is not a revolution! I like english, it's a "world tongue" or better the "free" language. But There are a lot of Joomla sites in other languages...
And remember of our luck, you and me, owner of a western language that it is widespread all over the world and forget the scientific results about the better web based language: the chinese or japanese with their own specific writing characters are the best for the web, more information in lesser space. Long life to the english so but avoid to think english is the best. In this case we lost!
In a community we respect each others (about language)

Re: New slogan
Joomla - Express Yourself
I believe this is what it does - let's non-techie user (like me!) express themselves.
As as dyed in the wool marketeer, my one piece of advice would be steer away from what it is, and focus on what it does...benefits not features etc.

Keeping the idea of simplicity and adding the fact that there's no ambiguity about the open source side of Joomla! in the future (while we can't be sure about what Mambo will become), we can have :
Joomla! - The open side of simplicity.
Joomla! - The open side of simplicity.
