Is there a problem with the forum topic structure

Post by yerg » Thu Sep 15, 2005 10:52 am

There are 10 pages of MOVED: posts.

Seems way too many.

Is this because the titles of the forums are ambiguous, the descriptions aren't clear enough?

Very difficult to work through when per page there are sometimes 75%+ MOVED:

Any ideas??

Hi Yerg,

You have a good point. It was already brought to our (moderators) attention by a Core Member. So we are discussing what to do about this. If we need to clarify the forum descriptions so people know where to post and/or remove the "MOVED:..." topics.

I have to move this one as well, To forum feedback. Another example of this issue.

So if you have some patience, we will come up with hopefully a good solution for all.

  I fell for the trap as well.

Not sure what it is but I'm finding it difficult to find stuff.

I can do the same search twice and get a totally different group of answers.

I can search for my posts and some never appear.

Hi,

Knowing Brad (Board Admin) he will read the post where the Mod's are also discussing this. He actually asked us a question like this today, and I also made some suggestions. Will point him out to this thread as well. I had some trouble finding my way as well, but right now I'm doing fine and can find my way around all forums.

I know the MOVED topics are left in place to help the author to find where it has moved to. With the ability to look up your posts in your profile plus the forum's search facility, maybe when a topic is moved there doesn't need to be the ghost or alias (or whatever you call the empty post pointing to where it now is).

May be the heading style has something to do with it .. just a suggestion

The General forum is the first on the list and is obviously the first choice.

Is there any reason for the search function not working?

This was a problem with the Vbulletin in a general sense even if you searched for a topic title that was actually there is responded with no such post.

I've got about 90 add posts at present and when I search for them I get only 29.

If it can't find mine how will I have confidence it will find stuff I want information on? This will lead to double posting and people getting irate because of this.

Not sure whether you guys have any control over this or whether it is a Simple Machines issue just concerned if it's happening at this stage (with 45,000 posts) is it going to become an even bigger issue as this forum grows to 300,00 posts?

No Brad it doesn't I only ever get one page with mine.

I'm not gazing in the mirror just observing the forum and how it works for a project and whilst happy with it in general it appears to have some inconsistencies.

Just did a search again and only got one page with 29.

Maybe BigPond is throttling the connection and I only get half what I should
