Mambo for companies and Joomla for Non-profit organisations ?

Post by Gasoline » Mon Sep 19, 2005 10:58 pm

Hi,

Maybe it's my poor English but I see this article on your site. How do I have to 'read' this  :o. I now have the opportunity and the obligation to make my def choice for Joomla or Mambo.

The Joomla 'story' does appeal more to me. But when I read this article, it makes me wonder.

[ After almost a year of testing and investigatingn I finally made the decision to work with Mambo -I build websites aot- and weeks later came the split. And now I read this article. So I really need to know if I make the right decision ]

Yes, in a sense, you will choose between Mambo and Joomla! or between Joomla! and some other way to create a web site. We here have chosen to use and support Joomla!.

Both Mambo and Joomla! can be used for either corporations or non-profits. That is not the deciding factor.

Joomla! was created by the same people that wrote Mambo. Mambo is now in the hands of other people who did not have much or anything to do with creating it.

The deciding factor for me was, who do I trust? I trust this team because I know them through their work and support for over a year. I see a commitment to high quality, high integrity, and team effort. I value those things in people. I have not worked with the other team at all.

You don't know either team, so you would be wise to make your decision based on what you see is available to you. Do you see a lot of support for the project at both support web sites?

Joomla! site: (this one) - it seems to me there is loads of recent support - especially since the release of v.1.0.0.
Mambo site: http://forum.mamboserver.com/index.php? little recent support; less since the release of 4.5.3 beta

Do you like what you see on the "roadmap" (plans for the future):

Joomla! roadmap: clearly defined, realistic, standards-based goals: http://www.joomla.org/content/view/14/28/
Mambo roadmap: they are reformulating it from the ground up with no clear direction at this time: http://www.mamboserver.com/index.php?option=com_pollxt&Itemid=119

Obviously, I'm biased, but the data is there for you to decide what to do. There are some people who have looked at both sides of the fence and gone with Mambo. There are a few people here that have multiple sites and plan to have some Mambo and some Joomla. Me and my base will all be going to Joomla!

Hope this clears up some issues for you,
