typos

Post by nathandiehl » Mon Dec 18, 2006 5:29 pm

here is today's list of typos on the Joomla! sites:

http://help.joomla.org/
in the first two articles have several references to links with a trailing "> >' in them. it is not consistent, and i am not sure they are supposed to be there?

http://www.joomla.org/index.php?Itemid= ... aq&catid=7
1. the last sentence states, 'the facts are...' and goes on to list one fact. it should read, 'the fact is...'
3. first word is Joomla w/out the !  This is repeated several times throughout this point.
third sentence states, "Both applications continue maintain" should read, "Both applications continue to maintain"
seventh sentence, "Joomla 1.5 also includes" i believe is misleading. "Joomla! 1.5 will also include" is more accurate, as it's in the future.
5. Joomla is missing the ! in the title and in the main copy.
5.6. and 7. There is an extra space in the title of each of these "...Joomla! ?" should read: "...Joomla!?"

http://www.joomla.org/index.php?Itemid= ... aq&catid=9
Joomla is missing the ! in every instance (three) in this copy.

http://www.joomla.org/content/view/689/79/
the first sentence is missing a period at the end of it. (ends with '...Joomla!'  , should be '...Joomla!.')
the final sentence omits the ! on Joomla.

http://www.joomla.org/content/view/1308/91/
the first sentence has an extra space between the words "is  income"
the last sentence has an extra space at the end: "Expenses will be added on Friday 24th November 2006 ."  (on another note, is this line saying something was supposed to be added a few weeks ago? if so, where is it?)

http://www.joomla.org/content/view/1308/83/1/1/
the second sentence is a piece of css code. not sure why it's there.

Actually I think that not combining an exclamation mark with a full stop is the correct usage.  At least in the UK.

huh. that is interesting. I was just following what the usage guide said to do. perhaps it needs changed, then?

See:
http://help.joomla.org/content/view/836/214/
The one exception would be the exclamation point/mark. I don't think it should be doubled when Joomla! occurs at the end of a sentence that is an exclamation...actually, there is no need to have an exclamation point in a Joomla! sentence...I say just end it in a period (full-stop).

my personal opinion on the matter is if indeed the ! belongs with the word Joomla!, then by not including a terminal point, the sentence doesn't have a proper stop, and by definition of a sentence, it must have a stop.

Hmm, yes I see your point.  It just looked a bit odd to me, but if the Style Guide says so, then I'm happy to go along with it. :)

Thanks again, Nathan. I changed as much as I could. I couldn't change the FAQ items, as it's borked in the backend. We'll look for something else there.
