Help Joomla Find Cures for Diseases - Free!
Some of us don't have money to donate or time to volunteer. That's why Stanford University has made it easy for everyone to help find cures for diseases simply by installing a small application on their home pc/mac that analyzes protein molecules and then sends back the results to Stanford. You get points in return. It's called Folding@home and more than 50,000 teams (600,000 users) have joined to help.
I would like to officially invite Joomla members and webmasters to join Isara's Folding@home Team so that we can work together to find cures for diseases. Google has a team, so why not us too? lol
All you need to do is download a small file (it's completely safe) and install it (takes one minute). The application runs in the background, while you're working or sleeping. As long as your computer is on, you're helping.
Download Site: http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html
The first download link (5.03) will work for most PC users.
After/During installation input the following:
Username: Joomla (or use your own username if you want individual stats)
Team Number: 53762
The more computers that have the Username: Joomla the more good we'll do and the more points Joomla will get. Certificates are provided by Stanford for those who join in.
Let me know if you have any questions and I hope all you Joomla users will join our team,
PK Gillock

For those interested, the technology used is called Grid Computing. Currently, the University Medical Centre I work at is also investigating this technology to support the University in there research.

This is very similar to the SETI project. I am currently running one on my machine that is doing Cancer research (grid.org). On top of being helpful it is a pretty cool looking screensaver!
I can also tell people I am doing cancer research in my spare time!!!

Brian,
Thanks for mentioning it in Joomla! Weekly. I hope we get some Joomla webmasters to join up. It's too easy not to.

@Brian
I really started thinking about this with my Joomla dev machine which is online all the time. But being a security freak , I like to know how save this is and if there are any riscs with my disks involved.
@isara
Is there a security paper from stanton taking care of that?

Definitely! With more than 600,000 teams and a million players, I'm sure it's application has been looked at under a microscope (pun intended) to make sure it's safe.
One of our players, whose been a programmer for more than 20 years, checked it out and then installed it on more than 40+ boxes at work.
Thanks for joining the team, pvh123!
