Two Comments About Joomla Topic is solved

1. The name Joomla  has to go   I have to admit that name just annoys me, where did it come from what does it mean or stand for how to prononce it ? sounds like a cup of coffee

2. If one doesn't already exist how to navigat through all the mambo ? joomla ? sites, forums, etc seem like we have to bounce from one to another to find an answer is joomla the main source or is mambo gets confusing especially by a newbie so far i've been

forum.joomla, mamboforge, mamboportal, then there's component sites we are told to go to

should we be downloading mambo or joomla are they the same or different ?

Do we install components, mods from joomla ? or some of other mentioned sites above

3. So far I really like what I see and look foward to joomla skyrocketing

Hi Warmac,

I believe Joomla is a 'westernised phonetic spelling' of a word that means variously 'all together', come together, sentence, paragraph, unite - essentially there seems to be some common root implying collecting or organising.

Joomla is produced by the same team that produced the award winning Mambo, but following what was interpreted as a power grab by another body THE ENTIRE DEVELOPMENT TEAM walked away and started Joomla. As to finding info - well the entire project is only 5 or 6 weeks old and much of the behind the scenes organisation is only just settling into position.

Joomla and Mambo are, for now very similar - but this will not continue for long. With each new release of Joomla a gap will grow between the two. Over time compatibility or CMT (components, modules and templates) will probably diminish.

As to a recommendation as to which you should download - since the parting of the ways the Mambo forums have all but died. The only release from the camp was a hastily put together, and some would say poorly implemented, BETA test version. The Joomla team have had 3 releases to-date with a new one on the way 'soon' - probably.

You pays your money (or not) and you takes your choice.
Navigating around different sites for related information - well that's the internet for you, the perfect tool for active information gathering.

I read some more on the Joomla site, apparently the word comes from swahili, I wonder if they meant to say Jambo, I know this is a common greeting in Kenya. 

I thought Mambo and Joomla are created by the same people and they were merging into one so they are really 2 different entities ?

guess i'll have to do some searching to get the full story, yea the internet does have alot of information on it mostly useless but one can never argue that there's not alot of stuff on the net to surf.  Personally, I try to stay way from surfing too much it leads to a quick death he he

There we differ - I see the web as an evolving interlinked repository of the entire knowledge of mankind - well that is what I see it as evolving towards anyway. The dross will find itself not being linked to and will become 'islands' of dross seen by no-one - in an ideal world. I relish the serendipitous finds - those facts, figures and articles that you happen across by 'chance'. Yes time consuming - but hey, you only live once.
