New Frontiers Charter School

New Frontiers Charter School, a kinder through 8th grade school,  has launched it's first Joomla! site. We were intertaining the idea of using a company called School Fusion in an effort to increase parent involvement and build a community with our parents, teachers, and other stake holders. After viewing the demo I realized that almost everything they used to sell their product could be done for free through the power of open source. Let me know what you think.

Nice job.

I like the use of the tabs for the vision and mission statements.  If you've got some core values, or other things like that, you could add those to the tab set as well.  I like it and it gave me some ideas for some sites I'm working on.

One suggestion:  I like to see the location of a school somewhere in the masthead, and an address and phone number in the footer somewhere.

All in all, a very pleasing site.

Thank you for the comments and I have taken your advise and added the address, phone, fax, etc to the footer. I am not sure what you are recommending for the masthead (map, address, city, etc., not sure) I do have a contact menu item with the map and a it is also under the facilities tab. Again, thanks for the positive feedback and maybe you could share your vision for the masthead so I can see what you mean. ;D

Well, what I was thinking was just to have "San Antonio, Texas" somewhere near the top of the home page.  As I look at the graphic you are using for the masthead (nicely done by the way), there is one place that says "put the city here" so I don't have a specific place in mind.

Initially I thought, oh, just put it under the school name, but I like the very subtle reflection there of the school name.

So, I dunno.

Most of your audience will know where the school is when they go to the site, so it may not be that big of a deal, but as a new visitor I'm always curious to know, "Where is this neat school?"

One more suggestion for the footer came to mind ... why not put a link to the "contact us" page in the footer as well?  It's not a big deal, but just an idea.  Maybe add it next to the links to the site map and privacy policy, etc.

You really have done a super job here.
