Sent an RSVP through to Robyn, and thought I'd better say I'd be there here too.

It will be good to meet some fellow Joomla folk, and perhaps even look at having setting up a regular JUG in Melbourne?

The latter is already being worked on (finalising the rushes atm).. More news on the day (with hopefully a stable site launch). Damnable siFR and SEF is playing up.. with less than 48 hours to go.

Just so you don't get carried away Lawrence.. the presentations on the day will not include you being able to present anything to the audience. The agenda has already been planned and published. A lot of hard work has gone into this event, and it does not include you being able to showcase, promote or push your own sites or agendas.

If you are planning a local user group, you may wish to post about it in the site showcase of this forum, or the news site.

Lets's try and keep this thread on topic.

On a positive note, Russ and I have spent some time today finalizing and planning our presentations. We've got a few nice surprises as well, and I'd say overall everyone is going to have a great time, unless you have unrealistic expectations as to the purpose of this get together.
We're looking forward to seeing you all there. :D

Considering other people have said that they'd like to showcase their work on the day, it's no use singling me out for any fault, Brad.

And remember, the presentations themselves don't form the event..

mkeeping wrote:You could of joined together with http://melbourne.ug.php.net and had a Joomla / PHP get together :)

akede wrote:Are you going to make it more a community meeting event, or are you intenting to do presentations and classes like the events in Europe? I'm just asking to may be provide you with some info material which you might be able to use.

The people, at the end of the day, form the event or group who see the presentations. Community is more important than dogma (of any kind, even OSD), as I've seen in WE05 and WD06, plus the Massive party. Remember, Wizzie and yourself are advertising it as having the ability to:

Wizzie wrote:The event is organized to allow for in-depth discussions in a group of distinguished Joomla! minds.

and if all you're doing is lecturing people on the floor, it's not very condusive for in-depth discussions.

So obviously people other than the Core will need some podium / mike space / visual space of their own if you plan to deliver on what you're marketing J!Day AU 07 as, and to allow people to discuss..

See you there Lawrence.

So no "in-depth discussions in a group", eh ?

brad wrote:Despite that, we're all going to have a great time!

I have no doubt we'll have a great time. I'm a little concerned with the marketing aspects of the J! Day overriding any community involvement. After all, if we're not allowed to question or discuss, isn't this just marketing paid out of the slush fund of J! (which, according to what Brian's said elsewhere, is bleeding out badly) ?

Hi all,

honest I'm really impressed what you have prepared so far and I wish all of you an exciting first Joomla!Day in Australia.

And always remember it's your first event that kind, so do not try to get everything done already now. Making it fun for all of you to meet - this should be primary focus #1.

All the best and looking forward seeing many, many pictures from your event

Alex

PS: I side note. It would be perfect if you could upload your events-pictures (e.g. with flickr) and tag them Joomla!DayAU2007

Man, this is getting serious, half of Melbourne won't be at work by the sounds of it, including a couple from out of state and even out of country. ( Does Queensland count as out of country as well ?? :D )

What a great response! A big thank you to you all for making the effort to attend, I know Brad, Wizzie and myself are looking forward to meeting you all on the day.

Just a small request to all those who are attending:

Please, unless absolutely necessary, plan NOT to use your laptops/etc on WiFi during the official part of the presentations. We really need to utilize the available bandwidth for a few who will be 'skyped' in, as well as for recording the event. So maybe plan not to bring your laptops etc ...
A bit of separation anxiety I know :P but it would be very much appreciated, thanks.

Thanks for your understanding in this regard.
