Is there one you like more than the others?

I think stable is not the right word because there will be beta releases from time to time for testing in the community.  And "Take Control Over the Web" sounds too much like "Take back the Web," which is Firefox's.  Good shot on the others.

"All together" IMO,  has the right balance of meanings to get the job done.

1.  Noone's gonna know that Joomla means "all together".  Redundancy in the slogan will help that fact.

2.  We now have a TEAM that's "all together"

3.  We have a COMMUNITY that's "all together".

4.  We have a CMS that puts the pieces "all together".

5.  This slogan let's us have the emotional impact that so many want the slogan to have today, without meaning nothing in the future ("why is the slogan "to heck with Miro" again  :)).

More thoughts?

Ok, the best idea to me is what someone already posted:

Joomla! - Open Source Matters

This is pretty obvious, it's what this is all about  and it's the name of the site too. I suggest putting this on the list, so people can vote for it. This project should run for a long time hopefully and while I don't like the name "Joomla" too much (I wonder what company suggested this) I do like Open Source Matters alot.

Do what Prince did and make it just a symbol.  ;D
Should see how the logo pans out and work some ideas off that.

The simplier the better.

Some good suggestions so far.

My original though was:

Joomla! Bringing people together.

This works not only in the sense of the Joomla! community but also bringing people together by the medium of web.

Then I though some more.

I personally like:

Joomla! Open source matters.

Which has been suggested by a couple of people.

My take on this is:

Joomla! Because open source matters.

This works both ways.  If you know what Joomla! means it says together because open source matters.  If you don't know what it means it simply says choose Joomla! because open source matters.

I'm not very creative when it comes to this sort of thing but just wanted to give my $0.02

Thank you for listening.

Why not ? It also expresses how this all started.

Joomla!  Open Source Matters
Joomla!  Because Open Source Matters

Both are highly appropriate for this project. The dev team quit Mambo also because of concerns about Miro taking over the control of the project and thus the Open Source core idea behind Mambo was in danger.

So this one slogan, together with the name expresses the whole history of this new project in simple words.

My vote will go to one of those, if they make it on the list.

my 2 cents

is there any polls afterwards?

its frustrating after i heard that the joomla! name was not from the community pick. I like it, but its suppose to be play by the rules. I means what is the name disccussion for? Anyway, as i said, i like it, its nice.

Okay maybe the slogans and the logo will be for the community to 'support'?

personally I think the name sucks. I don't know who came up with that name but we will all get used to it  ;)

hope they listen to the community for the slogan. Polls would be great.

It' s a bit emotionally loaded but i think secure is a very good word to put in a baseline.
I think it's one of the aspects people are looking for when choosing a cms.

  • Simple and secure.
  • Solid and secure.
  • Stable, simple, secure.
  • Solid, simple, secure.
  • Secure platform for online communication.

Just trowing it in the brainstorm here.

- or -

OpenSourceMatters.com presents Joomla! - Because Open Source Matters.

I agree, the "funny feature" of the words meaning is soon gone, and then it's just a less apealing name than other CMS systems.

I agree that people are looking for security, but having it in the name puts you under big pressure. If you advertise your security in your name and get hacked people won't take you serious anymore. I wouldnt put something like "stable", "secure" and all this in the slogan because people will measure you when you do so.

Well, I really like the "All Together" and a play on that would be fun ...
al·to·geth·er adv.
  1. Entirely; completely; utterly: lost the TV picture altogether; an altogether new approach.
  2. With all included or counted; all told: There were altogether 20 people at the dinner.
  3. On the whole; with everything considered: Altogether, I'm sorry it happened.

Joomla! Altogether simple!
Joomla! Altogether flexible!
Joomla! Altogether simple and flexible.

Joomla! Altogether powerful!
Joomla! Altogether wonderful!  ;D

Of course, putting all those adjectives together leads to one of those silly modernistic catchphrases:
Joomla! Simple. Flexible. Powerful.    <-- why is it that these sounds wrong if there's more than three adjectives?

Joomla! Powerfully simple!

As a side note: there's really no need to mention "content management" or "open source" or even free (as in price) in the motto, people don't just end up at joomla.org by accident ...

Joomla! Your Saviour!
Joomla! Your Solution

Edit: A few more
Joomla! Come aboard!
Joomla! Jump on!
Joomla! Jump on board!

I believe we need to promote the power of the product. What it does best... community, and the like, are implied rather well after about 30 seconds on the website and the forums...

I tend to like the three word groupings...

Inspired. Empowered. Ingenious.
Dynamic. Diverse. Direct.
Concept. Colaborate. Create.

Open Content. Open Source.
Your message matters.
A Different Drum.

A few thoughts...

Alternatively:

Joomla! - developed by Open Source Matters because open source matters!

Does that work? I'm not sure.

I still like the because open source matters tag.  How often would the slogan be used in conjunction with "developed by" anyway.  Surely it would just be:

Joomla! - developed by Open Source Matters.

You wouldn't necessarily use the slogan when you were identifying who the product was created by would you?

Once again thanks for listening.  ;)
