For those who are busy thinking the Joomla! logo looks similar to the MS core files images posted further up this page, they should consider the similarity of those to Apple Computer's Command symbol which has been around since 1982!

I'm happy to have been one of those that voted for the winning logo. I like the clever combination of Js representing a community of all colors. Well done, Andy. Well done everyone.

I fully agree. The coreteam lets us vote for the logo, the winning logo is a good design and now people keep nagging.

In a way it is too bad that people who saw the obvious similarities of various logos did not bring this to our attention before the vote.

Don't worry, I'll get over not liking the confusing "J" Microsoft-looking logo...

But what do you all think about having a mascot for Joomla? We could have another vote to choose between the fish and jbird to choose the official Joomla mascot...

I voted jbird but this was still my second choice.

~yay, we have a logo!

I am not sure I want to be part of a community that spends its time snipping at people that dedicate their time and energy to helping make this CMS a world class project.

A lot of the comments were just jokes...this forum was provided to discuss aspects of the new logo.  If it were not proper to make negative comments about any aspect of the logo, which is just opinion talk, then I think this forum would have been a praise forum only.  Everyone understood that the new logo would be tweaked, perhaps tweaked hard, and not to expect an original, final form.  The designer is in on the tweaking, too, so it's not like he doesn't have a level playing field.

This is a well rounded discussion of something that people pay, apparently, fortunes for.  Even the swastika comment, which is something that had earlier crossed my own mind--that poster had the stones to say it out loud--was legitimate in the sense that people should be able to express what they see in the logo without being attacked.  (Seeing that another organization had accepted this very similar logo helped considerably in negating that unhappy negative connotation.)  Did any of the designers enter without the idea that there was a good chance that someone would not be satisfied with their entry?

No one is going to shoot you for your opinion,  but I doubt that the designer is any kind of a wimp.  The core developers will decide whether there is a previously unseen problem that they can't handle. Part of that process is this discussion.

Fortunately, I don't have to worry about that!  I'm grateful for the opportunity to participate in the vote, thoroughly enjoyed all the entries (the ones that I could see), and think that the winner should continue to feel very, very happy with the vote results.

I'm with Birdie;)  Such a funny sentence, if read out of context.

The experience of a community successfully and openly nominating, voting and discussing the branding of Joomla amazes me.  I expect anyone who has tried to achieve similar results with a committee, or a board (of maybe a dozen people - definitely not hundreds) to feel the same!  This isn't easy stuff... but clicking around these threads you could easily think otherwise.

I voted for the Fish.  01 was my 3rd choice, but that doesn't make it a bad choice.  Neither do any of the 'negatives' posted thus far, imho.  Having said that, I'm holding any further comments on the logo until I see the 'official release' (and I'm pretty excited about it).

Anyone else getting ready to brand their websites with the new logo?  "Powered by Joomla! [logo]", etc... ?

Cheers, Adam. (dStorm)

Still love the bird the best, but there were so many great choices. I'm just glad to have participated. I'd love to see the chosen "link" logo also have an animated version, that spins, like it's rolling. (Might as well ask!) We could then place it here and there just for fun. ;D

The problem is not about the winner logo! The problem is to avoid MS problems.... so, taking into account this great logo, I think all necessary designs have to be made for avoiding future misunderstandings (with MS) and above all legal problems... I think that we have to defend joomla and not to expose it to legal fights... (MS is in the business...)

Okay, I agree there were serious concerns too in this thread. The resemblence with the microsoft logo is the colorscheme. Alan allready said het was working on alternative colorscheme's. (I would love to see it in gold, which is a suitable color for an award winning app  :) ) What I was refering to was the tone of some posts, it's not that hard to put critical questions without being rude  :). Okay, my excuses for the word nagging, I should remain polite too.

Can Microsoft really have the copyright on the 4 colors I was painting with in school, long before Microsoft was a company?

The resemblence with the microsoft logo is the colorscheme.

johannes itten color circle is older then microsoft and 3 primary colours are older dan johannes itten color cirkel.
I see no resemblance with microsoft logo, new joomla logo is original and professional work.
congratulation to the winner!

It's difficult to talk about resemblance as this word can be used in many ways...  :-\ but I think the right meaning for avoiding misunderstandigs and for talking about that is to understand what in LEGAL terms we can say "resemblance".

If we start from a legal point of view becomes simplier to talk about for avoiding mistakes and misunderstandings... so I hope that a "lawyer" can post here for informing us where the problem could be and whether there are other unknown problems too...  :P

Naturally with any matter of this importance we have passed on the logo for vetting by our Legal Counsel who have a trademark expert.

I remember when front page news at The Onion was that Microsoft had applied to patent the numbers 0 and 1, hoping for royalty payments from any computer company that used these two numbers. Hilarious!

Hi stingrey,
Thank you for your "declaration", it is important to say that... so finally we can talk about this great logo without worring about an ipotetic legal fight.

In consideration of that we can talk about this logo with other "ideas"...

Check out this thread: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,8648.0.html

It seems there is an existing logo for a global charity that is very similar in design to the winning Joomla! logo. We may end up with J Bird after all  8)
