yeah, i really like to post here (as you can see...)

but WHERE? if you have a look an the "reporting bugs"-links, you can see
* Bug Tracker - 1.0.x
* Bug Tracker - 1.5
and who the heck can tell me, where the bugs for this 1.1.0 Alpha 2-version
do belong to? answers needed..

1.1 Alpha will become 1.5, so please post in 1.5 tracker.

I agree.
Except, of course, that whenever you encounter a problem or security issue, people will just lazily throw your version number in your face and tell you to upgrade - oblivious to all the little core hacks you have been forced to carefully implement to surmount current shortcomings and achieve your dream site...
So maybe that's why people clamour for the latest and greatest version.
Personally, I'm going to go with 1.0.9 - despite my excitement about 1.5 - so please make it a great, destruction-tested release Rey ;)
Take your time.

Hi Hajo,
you should be aware that the alpha2 is as old as the cookies from last year... There have been BIG changes since then and to have a version to report bugs for, you should get a SVN copy. look in the developer zone for information on the server adress and how to use it.

Re: Discussion about : Joomla! 1.5 is on the Horizon ...
Hey all.... I really can't wait to use 1.5 either, I waited and waited and finally settled on 1.0.8 a couple of days ago.
I have to admit that at first when I learned that 1.5beta would be delayed, I was really disappointed coz I totally expected it to be ready at the end of April. But then instead of helplessly waiting for the beta to roll out I decided I would help to test out the nightly builds and hope that maybe that would be the least I could do to help out the developers.
So if you wonder when 1.5 will be out, the 1.5Q&T forum ( http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/board,199.0.html ) is probably a good place to go, since you can see how the development is going. I've installed 3 nightly builds so far and unfortunately none of them worked, but maybe that's just something I did wrong.
If you'd like to see 1.5 rolls out sooner I'd suggest that we all do our bits and help the developers out by testing the nightly builds / trunks

Hi Jinx! Any news on when 1.5 is likely to be available? I'm hanging fire on four projects until 1.5 is out. Is this worthwhile, or will there be a smooth upgrade path from 1.08? Let me know so I can decide whether to wait or get cracking.
Cheers

Greetings all Joomlers
New user here.
I can't wait 1.5 either
I just got my first paid hosting and I'm eager to start building my site. I've used Joomla on free hosts before, but that's not quite the same as paid one.
Should I wait for 1.5 or get started with 1.0.8?
Sorry if this is too off topic.

Re: Discussion about : Joomla! 1.5 is on the Horizon ...
start with 1.0.8
as has been pointed out on this thread before 1.5 vwil be released as a beta - and is such will be suitable for a test site and not a live site
get 1.0.8 running on your new host -
give thrid party developers a bit of time to iron out any compatibility problems with the upgrade then you can use all those lovely joomla extensions with cofidence when you go oveer to 1.5
Of course if you are an experienced joomla user you may wish at the same time to run a testing server and play with 1.5.
If you are still learning the ropes use 1.0.8 - there wil be a clear upgrade path later on.

Re: Discussion about : Joomla! 1.5 is on the Horizon ...
why hasn't there been any communication about the delay and updated announcement about release"?!
Well there is a really simple answer to this...
They are working so hard on meeting a deadline everyone wants met that they didn't have the time to stop and update a website because they were busy trying to get the release finished so it could be released?
I know everyone is excited about a coming BETA release but lets be honest folks there is no reason to hold off starting a site until a beta is out because it could be a month (maybe two) before that code is set to stable and actually useable by a live site!
So my suggestion to everyone is just do what you got to do with the only stable version that is available and when the beta comes out you can do all your testing for the preperation of the eventual stable release...
Yes the release is late...
Will stopping what they are doing to update and inform all of us going to make it come out any quicker?
Or will dealing with an outdated post on our part allow them to worry more about finishing the code so it CAN be release...
I mean lets get our priorities in perspective here!
and asking WHEN it will be released is just asking for another opportunity to be let down if they don't make that one!
It will be out when it's out! for now use 1.08...
Leave them alone and let them code already!
Thats the quickest path to release...Explaining why and guessing when is just going to delay the whole thing!
Just my opinion...

Re: Discussion about : Joomla! 1.5 is on the Horizon ...
I fully apprecaote what you are saying about not getting devs to stop coding to answer queries about release dates and delays but perhaps the PI team could do that?
Re: Discussion about : Joomla! 1.5 is on the Horizon ...
Yes brian but then all your really doing is changing the person who is asking the devs the same questions...
Re: Discussion about : Joomla! 1.5 is on the Horizon ...
Not really as the PI has access to all the internal discussions that the community dnt get to see etc
Re: Discussion about : Joomla! 1.5 is on the Horizon ...
It's a question of professionalism. If you find the time for an announcement of a golive in April, you set expectations in the community. And your management of expectation is - to be quite frank - very bad. Once you make commitments, you have to follow up on them properly - this has not happened. You should change that.

I'm not trying to knock anyone here but it just is starting to sound like the kids in the back seat screaming "are we there yet?" every 5 mins!
Just my opinion...
So what is the "really simple answer" to my question then? Are we there yet? If not, when are we likely to be?
Re: Discussion about : Joomla! 1.5 is on the Horizon ...
It's a question of professionalism.
Well professionalism usually is a word used when people are getting paid for what they are doing!

Soon!
Does that make anyone feel better? Can we all sleep better now that an estimate on when it will be released has been mentioned?
My first guess will be NO!

No professionalism is an attitude and an approach to work
Re: Discussion about : Joomla! 1.5 is on the Horizon ...
WORK is something you get PAID to do!
these are VOLUNTEERS! They are not doing WORK they are doing a SERVICE! A SERVICE that is free of charge to us!
You don't bitch about a volunteer not giving enough of himself!
Otherwise what you get is NO VOLUTEERS....
which means NO 1.5 release EVER!
so tell me what will having a date for release get you other than another day to anticipate when you can start bitching about it not being out yet again?

Re: Discussion about : Joomla! 1.5 is on the Horizon ...
The majority of people are not demanding a release date. All they are asking for is not to be kept in the dark. By announcing a "proposed" date expectations have been raised (probably unwarranted) and by not making any update regarding the date etc that people are not happy about.
Re: Discussion about : Joomla! 1.5 is on the Horizon ...
Brian,
I understand what YOU are saying about not changing the site to reflect the missed deadline..
But what would you have them say?
Sorry missed deadline stay tuned?
Would that have made everyone happy?
I tend to doubt it...
What would be the right thing to change the April 2006 to without giving yet another arbitrary date you may or may not be able to meet and then you got folks complaining about TWO missed deadlines?
Here is the deal as I know it...And I'm not core or team nor any part of the Dev team...
they are working on finishing the release...
All of this is a distraction to the devs trying to do that!
And i sense an attitude around here as if the Devs owe us all something when it is quite the opposite...
They will inform us when there is something to inform us of!
They will release 1.5 when there is something to release...
They will change the website when there is something meaningful to put in the bad data's place!
a PROPER question would be WHY is there a delay...I haven't heard that one yet...
Drupal took a year to make their last release...Joomla hasn't even been in existence for a year yet...
We should all just be patient and allow them to get it right!

This has been asked by numerous people without reply.
To be perfectly honest with you if there was communication from the core then i am sure that 99.9% of people would be happy

Hmmmm...they must be busy then I guess....I wonder what has them so busy? LOL

Yeah and if there is no conversation because they are busy coding what then Brian!
Lets face it you want a pound of flesh and want to point fingers and complain about how a free project is being run!
They can give you answers until the Devs give them one...
Since they have given no answer that means none has been given...
If you KNOW this information exists then why don't YOU post it instead of pointing fingers!

If I still had access to the dev mailing list and irc channel that all the core team have then I would be only too willing to communicate things

May I ask all to cool down...
It is a known fact that PI needs improvements.
As all, this may come in due time, hopefully.

Your still ASSUMING that there is something in those materials that could address this issue...
If the Devs are busy coding then there probably isn't any discussion, IRC logs, emails or Dev posts that anyone can give to you!
Open Source and Joomla is a VOLUNTEER oriented project...when they VOLUNTEER information you will get it!
Since they are busy coding they haven't stopped to let anyone know anything that could then stop and inform you...
First off you don't have any particular right to know anything and second if they had something to tell you they would have...
they are too busy to deal with it!
You want tidy deadlines and complete transparency of any aspect of a project with regular updates I suggest you start one that you can control!
I'll tell you what has been told to me via email from a dev....
It isn't ready yet...
What more do you REALLY need to know? Why?
Because it isn't finished....
Anymore questions?
I could probably get a list of the things they haven't been able to eat recently because they haven't left their computer long enough to eat anything!
