I spent years in the city working down on 22nd street.  Love it down there.  I live up in Poughkeepsie, but I'll definitey make a trek down for this.  Very kewl.  I'll have to keep my eyes peeled.

what do you think about battery park city? there is an atrium with 75 foot palm trees, tables, chairs, there is an outdoor area next to the hudson river with restaurants and a park that stretches all the way south and almost completely north to the bridge. it's a longer haul for me (than 53rd street citibank - which sounds good) but i love it there. peaceful, tranquil, and beautiful. if that is too far downtown for anyone, that is fine with me as i'm out of manhattan in southern westchester.

Now that you mentioned about battery park, then I definitely prefer battery park among the others. It is indeed an excellent place.

I really just have one other question...

is there going to be food?  That's all I need to know  :pop

Should we all get Joomla shirts?

lol! you cracked me up bro! Now that we already figure out shelter (battery park, cGroup Building or Central park) we will make sure that food will also available for all.

I should say we should get Joomla shirts and wear them during the meeting? --form of advertisement.

Excellent idea Alex, we now have our price of admission decided ;)

Also, I don't want to be a picnic-pooper but I think this should be inside, so we can see our screens 8) I see this as an all-day affair followed by a good ol' fashioned pub crawl in the evening. That sound good to everyone?

Ok, perhaps it just me, but we're going to look geeky enough with the matching joomla shirts... but a pub crawl whist we're toting laptops and joomla shirts.. we're going off the chart here into some serious geekdom.

The Joomla shirt I got is black, and will be part of a baggy plaid skate shorts ensemble. I'll also be riding one of these most likely, so it will definitely make for a gangly crew of sorts...

I know I've been out of the loop lately... busy with getting my life in order.

I still have to get my shirt!

Perhaps we should make a quick list on what we've gotten done / decided at this point and another list of what we still need to accomplish to pull this shindig off.

Completely rude side question, is there a Joomla User Group in New York City?  If so, where and when does it meet?

I'm over in Astoria.

I usually hang out with the NYPHP gang: http://nyphp.org

But I've been busy lately and have missed more than I've attended. I believe they are taking a break over the summer as the city is somewhat deserted.

This was the only thread I could find on a NYC Joomla Day, and it looks like there is nothing in the works, but that there is some interest.

If this is correct, how about starting small with a Joomla Users Group, meet anywhere in the city, and move on from there. I'm not the best organizer, but I bet if we pick a place and a date, people will show up.

If you have any information about a Users Group, please let me know. And sorry, although I would love to learn it, PHP is a mystery to me.

Thanks!

I think it's just a matter of putting it together and doing it.  Perhaps we can appoint a few people to set everything up.. and people can give a yay or nay.. and go from there.  Even if we get 3 or 4 people.. we can hang out and do something fun.

The last I saw it is October, but the date is not 100% firm. Ryan is organizing it in the same way he did for J! Day west in May.

update:

The way things were organized in California were as an "unconference' and people were invited to propose topics.

Will it be scheduled to coincide with the SFLC Legal Software Freedom Summit October 12? That would be really cool if it were.
