Re: Forum update
Yup. Oh well...gotta adapt to the change. However, on my end, likely won't be looking at the forums that often because of it.

Re: Forum update
I agree with herb200mph, it does seem clumsier, but this can come with being new. I guess time will tell. I can say this though, when I first logged onto the forum, I picked it up VERY quickly as everything seemed instinctive.
Re: What happened to the forum today???
Great conversion, good job in keeping all my info, avatars, etc... 2 niggly problems for me though:
1 - this post text is too large for me. And there seems no options for individual users to change these as preferences.
Update - oops! Found the Icon to change text in the top right. Not very obvious though.
2 - the Google search consistently returns me to the forum's index page, even though a full link to the item has been given. I tried a C&P for the link, only to have the same result. I thought PHPbb had it's own search mechanism?
Otherwise, it's clean, slick, and faster. Good job!

Re: Forum update
Yes, it is. In the notification of reply emails, the "topic" is listed by the writers message isn't. It would be nice to read in the email we receive what the writer's reply was. That way we don't have to link back to the forum using bandwidth just to view a message that says: "Thanks for the help"

Re: What happened to the forum today???
I guess I'll get used ot it over time and it will be good in the long run as I enjoy other phpBB boards but I must admit its a bit jarring right now.
Heres a few thigns I noticed
- The header's blue text ona dark grey background is really hard to read
- The image icons on the forum front page underneath "translations" and "documentation" arent loading
- The font size seems really big to me. I realize I can change it from my end with my browser setting text size from medium to smaller but for medium it just seems really big to me. (EDIT: i found the font size change icon int he upper right, nevermind on this. )

A few of my posts on old forum that had snippets of php and/or html code examples are garbled (both FF and IE), but other than that, looks good.

From the forum main page, just under the header, you'll find:
View your posts •View unanswered posts • View new posts • View active topics • Mark forums read
Within a post or in a specific forum, you'll have some, but not all of the above.
Re: What happened to the forum today???
Great job, these moves arent easy. I was worried for a second you went with FIREBOARD.

I can't speak for the admin crew but I can speak from experience with phpBBB3.0
Building the search index can be a long process. There are some other variables that go into the index which can lengthen or shorten it. One of my boards took us 2 days to get it ironed out, another took 3 or 4 hours.

Google Custom Search does NOT work. It brings up results but when clicking on the results it just brings me to the main forum.

I think it's because Google hasn't re-indexed the forum since the links are now different within phpBB3
Can you please just add the phpBB3 search to the forum so we can use that one instead?

Re: What happened to the forum today???
yep. very nice and shiny indeed
The search needs sorting out like everyone's saying though! Having a search box only when you get into a specific category isn't enough... understand it might put a strain on the DB to have one one the top level but it's needed! I want to find out wtf I'm doing wrong with joomla at the moment and I can't!
Apart from that, great stuff (once I found the "make text smaller" button )

Re: What happened to the forum today???
One practical question if I can .... are any plans in place to manage the old forum URLs?
They are referenced in 1000s of forum posts here and articles across the net (plus Google of course, which has 180,000 of them).

Did a little testing with URLs posted on the forum on my site. URLs in the format of index.php/topic,138839.0.html get redirected properly, while ones like this index.php?topic=196642.0 don't. It looks like they were able to retain the same IDs, so I'm assuming that mod_rewrite is able to do the heavy lifting.
Re: What happened to the forum today???
Hi Joseph
Looks like you're right. A Google search reveals those three kinds of URL, one working, two not:
topic,153290.html works:
http://www.google.com/search?as_q=html& ... =&safe=off
topic,153290 brings up broken version of old frontpage
?topic=153290 brings up the frontpage

Re: What happened to the forum today???
Well, something new to learn. I already like some things about it. Well done guys it must have been a huge undertaking. We all wondered where the forums went the other night...
Couple of observations:
1. the text is massive on my Firefox so I downsize it in my browser, but each time I go to a new page, it resets the font size to large again. Even the toggle to S/M/L text provided does not take the text small enough.
2. The icons with scrolling text in them are not very easy for the visually impaired. Static would be lovelier - maybe colour-coded?
3. Ok now the hardest bit for me - I cant edit my old posts. I use this feature to maintain a single thread for the Sydney Joomla! User Group, and I just change the title of the first post each month so I can show when the next meeting is. This is very valuable to me. Otherwise I'll have to create a thread per meeting, which would be a shame.
4. My old bookmark index.php/topic,141803.90.html generated a scary error:
whereas index.php/topic,141803.html (same link without the paging) gives the forum home page but un-styled.
I expect you've already covered all these topics and I appreciate how hard you must be working in this bedding down period. Nice work - thanks for your efforts.

Re: What happened to the forum today???
P.S. Ok having just made that post I see that I can edit my posts made after the move. It's only the ones from before the move that I cant edit.
So I will make one new thread and be quiet!
