I think 1.0.7 has a bug with SEF. From several posts that I read, it seems SEF works if Joomla is installed in the webroot, but if it's installed in a subdirectory, it gives a 404.
Could some developer check this please?

Does you subfolder have it's own .htaccess file?

I am not sure if anyone else is having the SEF problem, but mine is working fine with a fresh install of 1.0.7 in a subdirectory.

Excellent work! For the document administrators out there, I've just noticed the
Joomla! Roadmap hasn't been updated since Joomla! 1.0.5 was released (version 1.0.6 is still in a "TBA" stage in the document).

So the 70+ bugs fixed with 1.0.7 patch all happen to be in one file? I'm looking at the 1.06 to 1.07 patch zip file and I only see 1 significant file in it (administrator/components/com_config/admin.config.php). Just wanted to verify this cuz it looked kinda strange. thanks in advance.

Just to know how new releases will be published in future:
on 2006.01.15 - 14:xx (GMT +1) i recieved a notification that 1.0.6 is released -> no files at JF!
on 2006.01.15 - 18:43 (GMT +1) i recieved an email from Phil Taylor that he is offering the new full package (1.0.6) - with offering commercial support
TODAY - 08:00 (GMT +1) i recieved a notification that the 1.0.6 release will be available at JF
Till now (08:17 - GMT +1) no notofication that te 1.0.6 release was wrong.
Beside that the email from Phil Taylor was not really helpfully (see posting from Rey about the wrong publishing of 1.0.6), is this the way Joomla will publish future releases, that a developer like Phil will have earlier access to the files than 'normal' users?
Publishing the 1.0.7 release shortly after 1.0.6 maybe helpfully, but the whole thing about the releases is really not satisfying!

Do not take a risk...Just simply overwrite the entire 1.0.6 version with entire 1.0.7

I suppose I should have mentioned that I was just bringing it up in case any one missed it -- these things happen. When 1.0.5 came out I didn't make a big deal about the download text still saying "Download 1.0.4" for the first few days, while in this case its been several weeks and 2 releases later.

LET ME MAKE THIS CLEAR - I DO NOT GET FILES EARLY! - I JUST HAVE MY FINGER ON THE PULSE AND WATCH THE FORGEI personally downloaded them from forge.joomla.org about 3mins after they were released, a pre-prepared email was then fired to my opt-in mailing list about 5 mins after 1.0.6 was released. Its not my fault it was later withdrawn, although I understand the confusion caused.
I made notes about it on the latest news section of my website
http://blog.phil-taylor.com/2006/01/15/ ... -released/http://blog.phil-taylor.com/2006/01/15/ ... available/http://blog.phil-taylor.com/2006/01/15/ ... e-offline/http://blog.phil-taylor.com/2006/01/15/ ... -released/As it appeared 1.0.6 had issues it was then removed from my site and my frustration was made in these forums.
http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,30533.0.htmlI then went to bed.
Im not sure why you are attacking me - but I have done nothing wrong!

Michael,
Your remark is not correct here. I have to agree with Phil in this matter that he is clear and his angry remarks especially in the discussion on 1.0.6 are totally correct and valid. I warned here on the forum before the release about the testing and Q&A procedures and it simply happened. Phil is right and cannot be blamed this time....
Let us "normal" users as you say not forget one thing. I wish that all software would be distributed to many of the 3rd party developers and support technicians BEFORE releasing important new fixtures. I hope they do this with 1.1 and it seems tht they are doing it in some area's but without having the "external" parties a good look at it in advance we would be dead already. That is the power of this Open Source sw system. I only wish that they would use the profesisonals more often because working and testing from inside can make blindfolded sometimes. Not following your own procedures also. So definitely space for improvement but not blame Phil....he is out of that framework....

Yes, it does. But it doesnt help.
I have another Joomla installation of 1.0.4, with exactly identical configuration which works just fine. I guess 1.0.7 has a bug if you install it as a subdomain in a subdirectory, with SEO enabled?
I had installed it on a subdomain which points at a subdirectory. If I enable SEO (with its own .htaccess), I get a 404 on 1.0.7 (but 1.0.4 works fine).

Leo, before you comments on who has access to 1.1 you might want to take a look at the 1.1 dev zone and see how many people are working on 1.1, many of them 3pd's
'orking and testing from inside can make blindfolded sometimes' - please think about your comments and the implications you make by them.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can we now leave this thread for the discussing of 1.0.7 Thanks.

Do you point a subdomain to that subdirectory -- like something.domain.com, or you just use it as domain.com/something?
Here are my actual links -- you can try them:
My alpha.stanmed.net points to public_html/alpha of the stanmed.net website. It runs Joomla 1.0.7
My beta.stanmed.net points to public_html/beta of stanmed.net. It runs Joomla 1.0.4
try
http://beta.stanmed.net and
http://stanmed.net/beta (this one is 1.0.4 -- works fine)
Now try
http://alpha.stanmed.net and
http://stanmed.net/alpha (this is 1.0.7 -- gives 404 as a subdomain, but not as a path of main site)
Now try
http://alpha.stanmed.net/index.php (works fine, look at all the links too -- the links work fine with SEO, just the homepage gives 404)
Just FYI, the configuration.php, global configuration and .htaccess are just identical (except for the database) for the above two sites.

I guess the 1.0.6-->1.0.7 was a good learning experience. I guess it's better to just take the lesson and move on. There's no point lamenting over it. As long as you clearly document it, so that no more users spend time installing 1.0.6, it's all good. You guys have been doing an excellent job, dedicating so much of your time and energy. I'm grateful for what you guys are doing. Good job, and thank you all.

that's what i said.........if you read my words correctly...I know v1.1 is targeted especially to accomodate the 3rd parties which is a marvelous thing.I was not critisizing I was stimulating that's a big difference.
'orking and testing from inside can make blindfolded sometimes' - please think about your comments and the implications you make by them.
This is a fact.....sometimes one is so focussed that one does not see the issue anylonger as fresh and sharp. That is definitely not an insult but a simple human fact we all have once in a while. Nothing insinuating on that remark also. So i do not see why you need to address this to me the way you do......I was positive and have been asking and offering my and my people's services in testing especially to avoid the items we have been facing.......So i did not make any wrong remark here so do not point at me. A pointless remark was made towards Phil and I opointed out the splendid work these 3rd parties are doing...why telling Michawel to ignore that? I was not flaming or blaming; I was complimenting... Hope you can understand the difference

But advertisements are one thing, going to bed another
Beside to clarify 2 things: sitting here in Austria (which means it is 09:26 GMT +1), i am still recieving emails which are anouncing 1.0.6 releases (deleting, creating, deleting, etc.) at JF.
This is going since yesterday 14:xx
@Brad: i am subscribed to the forum for official anouncements for new releases - but not only one notification till yet.
I am recieving the notifications from the JF (where i am subscribed too).
Generally: a wrong publishing can be happen (we are 'only' humans), but as it seems the new version 1.0.7 still has critical bugs (SEF), or is not solving old (accessing unpublished CMT's).
What about the Q&A-team? Can a qualified testing be done in this short timeframe as the last releases were published?
Publishing new releases can be good (if security issues are solved), but if new bugs are coming in, are the customers not loosing their trust into the software/team?

Ok Sen, here is my configuration. Tell me if I got it wrong:
I have public_html/joomla as my subfolder.
My htaccess.txt has been renamed to .htaccess in the subfolder.
I set up a subdomain as
http://joomla.pioneerwestinc.com (not my domain, just a clients, demo will be removed in a couple days)
I turned SEF on, Joomla's default SEF.
When I go to joomla.pioneerwestinc.com I get the frontpage, no 404 error page. I check out some of the links and SEF is turned on. Seems to be working for me. I did check out your links and you do have an issue, but I can't seem to replicate it here.

The 1.0.7 'critical bug' you are speaking of has not yet been duplicated and the 'old' bug of accessing unpublished CMT's wasn't really a bug in the first place. It is more of a feature request, report ot the forge if you would like it to have the chance to be fixed. It is as easy as that.

Thanks Charles for the fast reply. Yes, yours works fine. But mine is broken somewhere.
Could you post the .htaccess of both your public_html and public_html/joomla please, so that I can see if that helps.
How did you set up your subdomains? Are they setup in your httpd.conf to directly point to the proper directory, or does your httpd.con point the subdirectory to just the public_html and you use an .htaccess there to redirect to the correct subdirectoy? I use the latter method.
Thanks very much,
Sen.

I have a blank .htaccess file in my root folder. And I set up my subdomain through cPanel. I am not a network or server guru, so I have no idea how it did it. And it seems as though on this webhosting account that there are some files and folders hidden from my view, because I have a lot more folders and files on my other account that I can view configurations for.
Here is what my cPanel says about subdomains:
Note: Subdomains rely on the DNS system in order to function, which means that your DNS information must propagate throughout the different DNS servers on the Internet before your subdomain becomes fully active. This process on the average takes a few hours.
