Just submitted a couple reviews for two of my favorite extentions:
Community Builder and joomlaXplorer.
Don't forget to post your thoughts and help others regarding the application of each download. The more feedback the better. This baby rocks, drinks all around to anyone that made in happen should you ever visit the Central Coast.

That is what we needed.
Thanks guys.
One thing though, get rid of $ambo her:
This calendar & mini-calendar are ports of the gorgeous-looking ExtCalendar 2 by Mohamed Moujami at
http://extcal.sourceforge.net. Not as native to
Mambo as the popular Events Calendar project, but is extremely beautiful, functional, and far easier to use.

We tried to use official descriptions of extensions. You will find many references to other projects in this directory until developers come in and update their listings. Thanks, I have updated this extension listing to reflect their latest information from J!Forge.

I would like to echo all the praise already given. I too remember people dissatisfied with the forge. Can't say I wasn't one of them. It was something that I thought would be nice but kind of forgot about it as I knew people were busy doing so much else and then you go and spring it on us! Here I am ready to go to bed and I read this and now my pulse is up again! This will help all members but especially the new!! Thanks all who contributed.

Please dont do this.. First you release 1.0.8, then you launch extesion site... My gawd.. I am spending more time on Joomla.org than developing the sites.. Why, why do you release new stuff so fast..?? Atleast give us time to enjoy the previous ones...
By the way, the extensions site is awesome!
Just what we wanted. Way to go.
Ciao. Now waiting for something new to come.

Sometimes I wonder the same thing. Even if they turned off post counts I would still spend way too much time on forum.joomla.org. You
can get too much of a good thing.
$250,000 of software - for FREE

The amount of value contained in all the free extensions for Joomla, and in Joomla itself, is staggering if you try to attach a value to it.
The new Joomla Extensions site contains approximately 314 extensions.
A few of these are commercial extensions, so let's use 310.
(the actual number of extensions is much larger than what is listed here, so this is low)
Software developers are paid anywhere from $20/hour to $50/hour or more.
Easily a low average would be to use $30/hour in calculations.
Even the most simple Joomla extension requires 10 to 20 hours of coding and testing.
Some components are easily hundreds of hours (Community Builder).
The average extension represents hours and hours of contributed value.
OpenSEF is already many, many, many hours of work (easily 150 hours +).
Let's use 15 hours per extension in the calculations.
So let's add up a very conservative estimate of the value represented in the extensions listed in the Joomla extensions site.
310 extensions x 15 hours development per extension x $30/hour = $139,500
A ridiculously low estimate of the value of the extensions is well over $100,000 - for FREE.
Let's add the value of the Joomla core development.
30 to 40 to 50 talented individuals contributing hundreds of hours - for FREE.
Let's say 40 people x 100 hours each x $30/hour.
This estimate is low.
There have been more people and more hours than this.
40 people x 100 hours x $30/hour = $120,000
So a ridiculously simple and ridiculously low estimate of the value contained in the Joomla Extensions site and in the Joomla Forge is over $250,000.
A better set of figures may easily exceed $500,.000 or even $1 million in value.
Simply awesome.
Open source - it does not get any better.

Question:
What will be done with bots for instance which are currently listed in Ken/Guilliam's list, not being contributed or uploaded by the author but by others? I refer now to mod_kl_evalphp for instance? Developed by Konlong (John Long) but never posted in the forge so how do we get one in or was it just forgotten? (kl_php is in though)

@alf149
http://extensions.joomla.org/content/view/15/63/Rolf,
Basically, you really don't need to register on the site, unless you are going to list an extension, is the way I read it.
... and if that is right, I think it is a good move.

This is correct.
Registration and login is only for Extension Maintainers - those who will manage the information regards a listing.
Normal usres/visitors do not need to register. They simply browse and click.

I'd just like to publicly applaud the efforts of everyone of the individuals who worked togethyer to make this new site possible.
Its taken quite a lot of coordinated man hours by willing and dedicated volunteers from across the globe working as a team - another great example of Open Source at its best.
Kudos to another successful collaborative community effort.

Congrats for being promoted to Core, Tonie, well deserved.
About the extension site: that sucks!
I had started something similar a long time ago:
http://www.mambo-help.com/mambo ("parts" menu on the right..)
but had to stop at some point because there's just too much for one single person to handle...
If you need any help..
This was just the missing link between users and devs!

philmoz,
You can register and rate/review. It seems to be working just fine on this end despite the fact that I don't have any published extentions. Perhaps the text needs to be updated?

I mean, tell them where to go to find extensions!
Excellent work guys, I think this extensions site will really add to the growth in the community!

Awesome guys, this is truly manna from heaven.
With the amount of time one spends on various sources trying to find what will fit.
(On fifteen different sources at last count)
Ken's list more than helped save a lot of time - but this is excellent.
Now I have to figure out what to do with our downloads section on Jooms
