Everybody else, please note, I'm a chicken. Brian wants me to speak but I think largely I'll be hiding in a corner with a bottle of something red (not Ribena).

I really dont know what to put in my talk :-)
So all opinions welcome !! - Custom development is a large topic and I dont really want to be talking about how to code in PHP to people that know!
So please, attendees, ask me what you want me to talk about and i'll try and add it. I dont want to waffle on for my time - I would rather give you something you want!!!

John (and anyone else) who signed up for joomladay since 12:00 on the 28th June.
Unfortunatley due to an error on my side the booking form has NOT been working can you please re-complete the booking form.
Sorry. It was because I was tweaking open-sef and forgot to turn off enforce canonicals again to make phil-a-form work

Darn OpenSEF
Darn Phil-a-form
Darn Phil.
I have yet to hear frm any attendees on exactly what they want my talk to cover!?
Should I be talking generally about extending Joomla or specifically about Joomla API, PHP Code Examples on how to do things etc? Or what exactly ? What level do attendees want?
Ideas on a postcard or email.

How about
1. How to write a simple component using the API for creating the toolbar etc.
or
2. Watchas and Gotchas when writing for Joomla
or
3. These are a few of my favourite extensions and why
Or a combination of the above

I'm not sure what the target level of the audience is, but on the Dutch Joomladay the more indepth lectures were the favorite as far as I could tell. How to create a component, best practices, etc.

Okay, I am all booked up. Due to the way the flights work I am arriving the Friday night and leaving the Sunday night. Would have had to go via Heathrow otherwise. Staying at the Radisson SAS, which I hear is pretty central.
See you all there!!

P.S. That's me up to 16 flights in July so far... so please excuse me if I seem a bit 'tired' at the event

ITs quite a good central place to arrange to meet up although I'd rather chose somewhere that serves real beer at reasonable prices. I am planning on booking a table and at reasonably priced restaurant but want to leave it a while yet to get a firmer idea of numbers

Hi Brian, I can now confirm that I will be there for the Saturday Night Meal / Beer and greatly appreciate that you are looking for a place that sells real beer. I live in the South (Ashdown Forest area) and will be driving up and have space in the car if anyone close wants a lift. Cheers gws.

I'm not going to get to Leeds, however would love to watch on video after the event.
I'd love to see the simple How-To for components & modules taken further than simple "Hello World", for example taking form input, processing and storing away in a database and / or being used to make remote calls to another system/site

Darn it - many people - I'm really going to be nervous now :-) Even my wife will be there listening.
I best start preparing :-)
No one has told me how much time I will have to speak so I am assuming about 20-30mins?
Topics I will probably include:
- How To: Create a custom component with 1 line of code! (aka dont be frightened by Joomla!)
- How To: Use the Database API (setQuery, LoadObjectList, LoadResult etc... also store() bind() load() delete(), use of extending mosDBTable with new class)
- Tips: Passing input to your component through forms (use of hidden fields in posts, use of primary key id fields and impact on store() function)
- Tips: mosTabs()
- Q & A Session
My small talk will be a snippet (hardly scratching the surface really) of a much longer 2 day Joomla Developers conference I have been planning for later in the year (See:
http://blog.phil-taylor.com/2006/07/01/ ... onference/) where we will cover the above and much more in much more detail, right down to example and reuseable code.

You can have as long as you want but I would aim for a max of 45 minutes Including questions. I get bored if its longer than that
