Joomla new Name, New Slogan
Posted: Tue Sep 06, 2005 9:48 am

With a new project goes a new name. It also should have a slogan covering the entire message.
I think it is combined with a lot of things, therefore i would suggest a slogan like:
Joomla! Making the web work 4u.
Joomla! Because its your Internet.
Basicly the slogan should combine the fact that its everyones, and easy.

My few suggestions here, not that they're much needed (appealing to your subconsious here, you *know* you will read this because you feel sorry for me
):
I'll group them by variations:
- Referrals to the strengths of joomla.
Joomla! - Simple management first
Joomla! - As simple as needed
Joomla! - Your site, the easy way
Joomla! - As free as it gets (Hmm.. free for your (HTTP) GETs?)
- Referrals to safekeeping/importance of content. (what joomla! is all about if you ask me
)
Joomla! - Because you value your content
Joomla! - Keeps an eye on your content
- Implies the interest surrounding Joomla!
Joomla! - The fuss in what's the fuss?
Joomla! - It's the fuss without the fuss.
Finally, since noone will ever figure out what joomla is....
Joomla! - Foomla your goonla (Doesn't really mean anything, if it does, it's purely by accident)
Oh well, I tried... Never mind this post.

My personal preference is to
not have "CMS" actually in the slogan. I really tend to like the ones that are a play on words, e.g.
Set your Sites on it
Or those that are open to broader meaning, e.g.
Collective Intelligence
People who find Joomla! because they're looking for a CMS will already know it's a CMS. Those who just hear the name but aren't looking for a CMS are less likely to even know what CMS stands for. In my case at least, I'm more likely to want to investigate what something is if it's got a clever slogan, or one that is a little ambiguous - something that will pique my interest.
Also, Joomla! seems so much more than a CMS to me (I know, technically that's what it is, and "managing content" can be quite a broad concept, but somehow it still just seems limiting to me to think of it that way). For example, some people use Joomla! to manage the content of their website, simply presenting information to visitors. Others create communities. Some create stores. I'm using it for collecting research data, and also for online training. In one way it is accurate to say that all of that
is managing content - but to me, it seems like so much more. And I think that a slogan should somehow remain open to that feeling of "so much more"... I guess orbitant's suggestion of "Infinity & Beyond" isn't too far off!
Just my $.02 - since I can't think of any good slogans myself at that moment.

what about Bulgarian?
rule of a thumb: careful with specific meanings in other languages, when creating a slogan (for specific audience)...
what I mean? explanations for the suggestions, and the possible meanings in english:
Joomla! puissant rapide simple - rapid simple pussy
Joomla! potente semplice veloce - POTENT simple
Joomla! einfaches schnelles leistungsfähiges - schneller, schneller (often used in german porn movies)
Joomla! de gran alcance rápido simple - the big rapid and simple Alcance (Alcance could be offensive)
Joomla! poderoso rápido simples - rapid simple Poderoso (in my language, pederas is for fagget)
just kidding,
newart, congratulations to you, if you know all these languages

English is our lingua franca, so don't bother about nuances in other languages. Rather think of easy words everyone can understand, like the glorious 'Power in simplicity" (two nouns with Latin roots, by the way).
OK, I know you were joking
Just in case.
Moreover, most Joomla-related sites will have their own mottos, as it happened with $ambo. So, no problem.

spanish:

As a native speaker, I would suggest: Joomla - fácil, rápido y potente.
However, I still prefer :
Jommla - It CAN be that easy.
