The answer is YES, but not now.

Can I ask why? If it is a case of available manpower then why not ask for more help (or take up existing offers)

With all due respect, Brian, we are out of line to ask for something to be given us, and to have people be kind enough to stick their neck out and give an answer, and then to ask "why?" We cannot cross that line, my friend. In part, that is a reason that information is not more forthcoming. Once information is shared, more information is requested. And, will that be good enough? The perception is only if the answer is to our liking.

We are all on the same side and we all see the same need; when they are able, they will provide it. Please, I am begging you, please, let's stop here. I am imploring your patience, sir. It will be repaid richly.

Amy

I would happen to agree with taking up more assistance by those that wish to help. I would however suggest that there are many here who set the sidelines these days due to this very reason. I don't think the willingness to offer assistance is going to bring change to the hierarchy. The team is happy with governing the software as they do. Open source doesn't necessarily mean "Open and Willing". Unfortunately.

If anyone wants to volunterr to assist, at the moment the documentation teams needs help with 1.5 as does the Q&T team.

Open source does not mean open and willing as you correctly state, it means the CODE is open and free.

Rick, this is severyly out of line and can't be tolerated on any forum. Totally unacceptable!

NOTE: Rick has been banned temporarily.

Whatever the differences of opinion, calling someone Adolf (as in Adolf Hitler for those that would not have understood) is unacceptable on these forums.

I fully agree with this decision.

I ask here not to comment this further and keep this thread ON TOPIC.

I don't post much as you may have noticed, and rarely log in.  But I wanted to add my 2p to the discussion.

I understand the desire not to distract resources in the run up to roll out of the 1.5 beta, but there will never be a right time.  After beta there is final, then bug/security fixes to the new release, then 1.6 alpha, beta, etc.  If template designers are willing to run a template section on joomla.org then let them get on with it.  Many hands make light work.

Many new Joomla users will come via fantastico in cpanel of their hosting provider and many may not be very technically minded.  Only last week on my hosting providers forums someone was asking for advice on CMS/blog software and said he had discounted Joomla as it lacked templates!

Now I set him right on this, and he has gone off to look at some of the links I posted.  But it would be better to have a central location on the Joomla site listing/showing templates both free and commercial.

The template will be one of the very first things a new user will want to change/amend on his site to get the look he wants and as such deserves more prominence it is perhaps even more important to new users than extensions etc.

I don't post this to have a go at anyone but merely to show where I feel joomla.org could improve to help less skilled users get started.

There is a dedicated place.  news.joomla.org

There are listings there for both free and commercial templates.  Template designers can post their templates, and are encouraged to do so.
