All people wishing to participate in Mambo are now required to be signed-up foundation Members and this includes the development team. As is the nature of Open Source projects, members of the dev team may decide to leave Mambo and they may take a fork of the Mambo project and continue to develop it to meet their needs and goals. Other developers interested in working for Mambo will take their place and the project will continue.
The previous development team is always free to take a copy of the Mambo source code to develop their own product. However, they will not be able to refer to their project as 'Mambo' or include the word Mambo in their project's name, as the trademark is globally owned by Miro who has only granted its use to the Foundation.
;)

Holy cow,,, this is going to get rough for Miro....
To be associated with the "foundation", members will be required to pay initiation and dues, as well as become subject to a fine of up to $500 if they conduct themselves in a manner that the foundation considers not to be in keeping their rules of conduct.
How many members do they expect to gather with fees, dues and fines???
Sorry, but had to vent over that one.
To the Core Dev team: thank you, thank you, thank you.....
I guess we are going to need to really kick our promotion of this initiative into high gear, given that Miro apparently intends to mute us on any server they own.
I will be publishing articles on each of my sites within the next day, front page, explaining what has happened and how to find the dev team.

Bad moves, Miro. This is embarrasing.

For some reason I am excited. For me its the fact that I get to be apart of a project from the beginning (well not really)
. I've always wanted to be invovled in something like this, and now I have an oppurtunity! I'm ready everyone. whats the next step?

Well, right now the only step is getting more people here. Hard to do when Miro's site mysteriously stopped working ::)
After things settle a bit (over the next few days) the community at large will get more info from the core team and we will go from there.
Mambo servers are offline!

I was logged into fourms and the main server. Then, clicks nolonger responded and now are timing out. They must be getting overwhelmed with reaction.
BTW, I posted one reply to Aristocrat about the situation and it was deleted in less than a minute. Right after that, the are now unreachable.
Like I told my wife this evening: With Free Software you cannot strong-arm your "customers" because they will just leave you. Example: XFree86 -> X.org New example: Mambo -> OSM
You have my full support!

This is getting even better (or worse)...
Ordinary members, fees not stated, fill in the application, send in email address.
Associate members, no fees, open to non-profits only, mail in application for approval.
Active members, no fees, requires nomination by another active member. mail in application for approval. Active members have responsibilities.
3PD ----- fees are $1000.00 per year, PLUS, 3PD must publicy state thier support for Mambo.... Mail in application for approval.
Strategic Members, requires three full time developers devoted to working on Mambo, and each Strategic member gets a seat on the board of Regents.... fees are $50,000.00 per yr.....
Well..... if they get it off the ground, it should be a great income producer. But it starting to get a lot clearer where they expect thier revenue to come from.
What do you bet, they announce FULL GPL license conformance soon (including provisions prohibiting use of Mambo with commercial products), then... If you want to get a commercial license....

I love the name Mutiny CMS :-).
The fact that the whole dev team moved together took away the worries I had last night (CET) after reading the whole foundation discussion thread.
Since we, the community, are sticking together, to me it looks like a step forward for our favorite CMS, whatever the name wil be.

Are you sure you didn't get banned? I posted the same message six times in different forums there (might have only been five as I am not sure the last one went through) and suddenly found the site inaccessible. It came back up soon after and I found my posts all gone and my username reading, "banned" - now it just reads, 'Guest". The only forum rule I broke was the one against cross-posting, but they did not warn me for "bad behaviour". Of course, if they classify this forum url as "obscene" I may have inadvertantly broken two rules!

Brilliant news guys,
I've been a fan of Mambo since v4 and I look forward to an exciting and open future for the project.
I have to say that I had my reservations about Miro's intentions when 'Miro' and 'Mambo Open Source' came together again after a few years of MOS progressively overtaking Miro's 'Mambo Enterprise' or 'professional' or what ever it was called.
I wish the Dev team the best of luck, and hope that all goes smoothly in migrating our community to where it belongs, with the Developers.
I've submitted the story to the SitePoint Open Source Blog (
http://www.sitepoint.com/blog-view.php?blogid=6)
You guys rock, keep up the good work. Let us know how we can help.
Cheers;
Poncho

hey, i didn't create this image, just modified it to resemble the "powered by" image in the solar flare template. it fits perfectly into the existing spot so you can just drop it into the theme folder like I did (just until we get a release of the new Mambo... or whatever it'll be called!)

What a few days!
As member of one of the official Translation Teams and as founder of a the largest dutch community supporting and running Mambo I'd like to express my support for the development team! We will continue to support Mambo (or whatever name it will continue to live on
), the development team and our Dutch community.
Bust of luck boys and girls, we're behind you!
If we can help, in whatever way, just let us now.

This is almambo... I chose to sign in here as freemambo. I consider this event as the strengthening of the Mambo community, not its splitting. In record time, only the miro chief and his hand picked team will remain standing alone in a corner. Please recreate the Arabic language forum here.
Just a thought: why not call the new mambo FreeMambo?

Checking in from Germany. Good luck in your venture, and I would appreciate some more background information on what actually happened during that last week before all hell broke loose last night.

Allmambo: from my point of view NO.
Because FreeMambo includes the word Mambo - and we do not wan't to be associated with the name Mambo anymore, right.
Let's do a "reboot" and start from scratch again :-)
Yes, this is my post #2 - it's just so refreshing to have been rebooted *grin*

Is it true that we cannot use any derivative name that has the word mambo in it? This is open source GPL and I have seen several examples where derivatives are allowed (Linux, OpenLinux, Debian GNU/Linux, Red Hat Linux, etc..). The legal consultants will have a better say here. If allowed, variations such as FreeMambo, Mamboo, Mambu, OpenMambo, etc... can be considered.
In any case, this is a hectic and exciting time for the team and for the community (just think of all the community sites that have to drop the use of the Mambo name if a name change is the only option). However, it is WORTH IT.

we need to deside what we need
if we leave the name similar to miro it would be confusing situation, so sometimes you need to make painfull step one time, in order not to regret that you didn't do it in the begining
with similar name we will be always afected by miro
so i sugest think about it before you make decision

I think do not speed up. This thread means we all put our signs to the dev's letter. It means community does not support Miro's activity. We open uour faces in avatars - let's Miro open their faces or say something reasonable.
Russians with you, guys.

The current action on mamboforum in deleting/banning accounts is a sort of Miro open their faces, IMHO.
To start in a normal way again, having a name is not unimportant and fast needed but must be well thought, the name Mambo is copyrighted ( Trademark i guess ) so not useable.
Nobody knows what is happen with the mambo forum and the mamboforge, so it would be a good idea every author of components, modules, bots and themes should be prepared for the first time to give also support from their own site until new structures are settled.
I`m completly with the Core Team and will support them where i can
