Re: New Logo
about components...
The winner is
Remember we have to put a logo on many mediums, this one is right on in terms of reproduction etc. Lets not make the mistake of selecting a logo that is going to be a major pain to implement in marketing, advertising etc.
There is so much you can do with it, it has a creative edge over all the designs submitted so far!
Mess with my family and you got trouble!

Yes, You have right but you have 2 (TWO) logos inside : the "people flower" and the "eternity 8".

Re: New Logo
Maybe a sensible thing would be for the Core Team to choose the best ones in their opinion and put up a poll for the community to vote on those. That way they get a significant say in the logo and the community can see that it gets to choose the actual one, democratically.

I don't agree with you.
As I said before, we have to know our name. Remember what we come from and what is our history.
It's the first way to forge our identity.
The next thing is what we want to do and to offer to our users. Because we don't really know which way users will choose ther "distribution".
I'm affrayed there will be a "professionnal" and a "home"(Joomla!) version.
Recents awards attracted new users. Do they know the diffrence beetween they and us?
What are the reasons for this "newcomers" to chose our version instead of the other?
Please don't answer immediatly but think about it!
I think it's a marketing battle(I hope not a war) that has been started...
Your's no doubt looks like cingular. At least what you have for an avatar. I agree with those who do not want anything to do with mambo or the mambo flower.

A logo needs to work without it's slogan...if it doesn't it is worthless. There will be applications of printing that won't allow for a slogan to go on it because of size limitations.

Re: New Logo
I agree completely! There are far too many implementations where logo alone would be appropriate for it to have to rely on the slogan. It is for this same reason that I think we need to make sure that the logo has a graphical element, and is not just the logotype - we need an image that can stand without even having the name visible.urquharttownson wrote:newart wrote:I think slogan has to be "together" with its logo! I got some new tries for you ;D
The idea was it, to show what Joomla is! -> Content managment. The rounded thing means the (flowing) System, and the flash is the content you put inside. I tried this because when you hear "joomla" you dont know what it is

I think that would work better if you used a traditional J with the arrowhead on the bottom end of the J

Re: New Logo
I agree with all of those who feel that we need to get away from the mambo flower...using the same concept of people in a circle from orbitant's logo I put together this logo below. The difference is that I eliminated some of the people to get away from the mambo shape and that the people are intertwined similar to the photos of the statue posted earlier.

Please Joomlers read what infograf wrote about his suggestion! Why a hand and why with a hole.
It is an old symbol, immediately understood in every culture, because you can find it as cave paintings or rock etchings wordwide. Sometimes the hand is drawn with an eye in the palm. The hole or eye means an "opening" like a chance.
Besides the funny guys here, who want to entertain us, I have the impression people just play around with Photoshop, but without knowing what a symbol is. FYI see here.
A symbol is mainly a concept, understandable by everybody, who knows about this concept. Like a heart symbolizes love.
A logo is always a symbol.
In fact, when the name was chosen, the idea of the hand as a graphic came to my mind immediately.
The hand adds a nice story to the jumla meaning (all together).
A bare hand is a sign of transparency and honesty.
It is also a waving signal to other humans.
And a sign of common humanity.
But it had also to be a special hand, not any one, one with a meaning by itself.
Years ago, I did a research work in Southern Africa and took pictures at a hundred "Bushman Paintings" sites all over the place.
This hand was printed on the walls of a shelter, among many others. Its color comes from the iron oxyde used by the group of people who expressed themselves there. Most certainly a shamanic rite, similar to the ones found in European caves and tens of thousands year-old.
These hand prints are among the first attempt of Sapiens Sapiens to communicate.
They are more recent, but were not dated.
And is not Joomla! about communicating?
The absence of paint in the palm is the way they are till today on the walls of the shelter, somewhere in the Cape Province.
Therefore we have the hand "the most ancient human signal to communicate", joomla! which means "all together" our Community, and this simple line to say that we communicate all together to the world.
The hand may be used as is for graphic only (one color for the purist), simple lines, available in eps. In this case I see it keeping the absence of paint in the palm.
Or integrated with the text and line.
And if someone tells you it looks like a kid painting, tell this person it verywell could be, a few thousands years ago, much before Internet. As a game or a rite. As a sign of what we are: human beings.
Thanks to Andy & Arno, for the font and the placement of the hand relative to the text.

I like this one too. JBut, just because something has a circular design doesn't make it the same as the Mambo Asterisk

Re: New Logo
Well...i´m amazed about the hole in the hand-story. If I were in the development team, i would choose this idea. It´s great. REALLY!!
Maybe the team should make a first pick of the whole logos. It´s getting to much. and a lot of stuff is not "good" to use for joomla.

Using the hand as a symbol is not a bad idea. I think it needs to be done in a way that makes it different from what has been done before. The style of the handprint graphic used in the logo mentioned has been used countless of times for logos and artwork. I think we need to get away from that and try something different somewhat like the style of peekmambo's hand logo. I'm not saying that his version is the way we should go with the logo I'm just saying lets try to be creative with the way we use it.

OK. No flower or anything reminding Mambo...
(thinking)
No flower but animals allowed; many of us have suggested some...
(thinking)
What is Joomla made of?
(thinking)
PHP... they said Joomla 2 will be completly rewritten with PHP5...
(thinking)
On a lot of PHP website I saw an elephant ! (don't know if its the official logo, it doesn't seem to)
So why not choose a elephant?
After all :
- it's an african animal,
- it's very strong but run fast
- it lives in community
- it migrates (from Mambo to Joomla)
Aren't these good arguments ?
Please give me your opinion. I'm working on it...
(sorry for my frog-eater english)

Xperis,
I will agree with you that it doesn't physically look like the mambo flower, but I'm not the only one who see's the mambo flower in the logo. It's like looking into the sky at clouds and making shapes and objects of them. If you look at that logo you can make the mambo flower out of it. If it was just me I can see your point, but many of us who have posted, see the mambo flower in it. If that is the way the community want's to go then so be it. Do I think that is the best direction to take it...no. That's my opinion.
