will there be a stand alone server version of this?
You mean like MSAS?
If there is a release of a JSAS then it would be through the folks that made MSAS would be my guess:

We wanted to see the changes to the admin UI of Joomla! for ourselves so we jumped into a new installation. In the process, we took some screenshots of the changes we noticed from $ambo 4.5.2.3 to Joomla! 1.0. Enjoy.

The CVS you referred to was Mambo 4.5.3 CVS, which is the basis for Joomla! 1.1
Joomla! 1.1 is still at pre-alpha status.
However it is also available from the SVN repository of the Joomla! project on the Forge.
Even in 1.1 SVN the database selection ability doesnt quite work, so there was no way we could port this into 1.0

there is no option to make a installation or backend translation without changing everything in the PHP files, which for me is strange and for sure a step back.
The ability to translate the Backend is something for 1.1
There was no way to port this ability into 1.0 as it requires far too many changes and too much time to try implment.

This will happen when we have "re-skinned" the forge. We didn't want to delay release for any longer due to skinning issues.

Great job, guys - clean, fast, elegant
BUT during the installation I noticed that the word
Mamber had survived in the messages
I wouldn't like to find it again!

OK, I can wait... but I look forward to have it eagerly!

Congrats and thank you.

I just had a look thanks to this new stand-alone setup (thanks Chang i think it was..?), and something struck me as not right.
I clicked to Joomla link, and was faced with.. Mambo? The default SolarFlare template still being the same, at first sight (that is, before you maybe notice the links..) it still looks just like before!
So I strongly suggest
1. a patch to fix the currently reported issues soon
2. a change of default template for 1.1 !!
Or even better, if possible without much work, provide a setup screen with thumbs of the provided templates, and let the user choose which one he wants

Now switched over to Joomla, transfer over was harmless. Great job everyone, absolutely love the tweaked admin backend. Amazing how just a few subtle changes here and there makes all the difference.

About 1st suggestion: maybe updating the initial release to include all fixed bugs would be possible also?
Or how is this going to be handled, I seem to remember statements about more frequent releases somewhere..?

This possibility was a FACT for *ambo 452 (or some hybrid version) where in the installer there was an option to choose both frontend and backend (as well as installation lang) language. So I am really surprised that there was no such possibility in Joomla! 1.0
The version with the possibility of changing admin lang can be found at:
http://joomla-bg.com/index.php?option=c ... 15150d2257So honestly I do not see where was the problem Joomla 1.0 to be the same!

Absolutely fantastic. Thanks to the team for their hard work. I'm presenting Joomla at Penguin Days in a couple of weeks and can't wait to share my excitement! All of the team deserves a gold medal for all your hard work through what I am sure has been a trying time.

Thanks to the Joomla! team for the wonderful work they have done!!
J100 already runs smoother than Mambo! And it seems that all open issues are so far easy to fix.
Looking forward for the things to come! After initially selecting Mambo some time ago as my core CMS, Joomal! is going to be the successor!

In case people missed the announcement in the general forum (as it disappeared under hundreds of new posts very quickly), here is our updated tutorial for the beautiful new baby:

Congrats guys.
I think they should be more than 2 templates in it though. Just my 2 cents.

farimi wrote:I think they should be more than 2 templates in it though. Just my 2 cents.
The templates included are only intended as a demonstartion of what can be achieved with Joomla! We woudl hope people will create their own unique designs, rather than use a template that thousands of people have the potential of using.
Including more templates, means unnecessarily increasing the core package and we have also been proud of the fact that Joomla! has such a small footprint.
However, more importantly, more templates, means more work to ensure that there are no design/cosmetic bugs within them which leads to more work for the Maintenance Team.
We believe more effiency can be gained by the team concentrating on making the core as stable as possible, without having to worry about cosmetic issues. As with anything we only have a fixed amount of time we can devote. therefore its important to maximise our productivity.
We beleive 2 templates is enough to show what Joomla! can do, without unnecessarily burden the mainentance efforts of the team.
