Hallo,

I was chatting with Waseem of Joomlashack at the LinuxWorld exhibition today, and came up with the idea of a regular monthly meeting for Joomla users in London. I know Drupal has a similar London meetup, which has apparently proved popular despite the smaller user base. I'd be up for setting up / running such an event, and would be happy to work with anyone else who want to contribute. I guess my questions are:

• How many Joomla users are there in London? I'm guessing lots, but it would be useful to have some concrete info
• Would it be possible to PM all users with London as their location in Joomla forum user profiles? What other ways of raising awareness might be useful / possible?
• Are there any people with experience of organising Joomla events or any London-based Joomla experts who might be willing to offer advice and possibly assistance?

Look forward to hearing from anyone with suggestions. *awaits thunder of thousands of replies*

What sorta things would actually happen at a monthly meeting? Aint to far from London, but dunno what a meeting would really offer...

I guess it would depend on what people wanted. I didn't make it to the Drupal meetup last week as I was in the wrong part of the country, so can't draw directly from that at the moment. There could be demonstrations of joomla sites, group discussion or Q&A on various aspects of Joomla site development / management, or informal networking and sharing of experiences and problem resolution. With alcohol, hopefully 

I'm a bit worried that only having one response doesn't indicate a huge groundswell of interest in this idea tho'.

Ho hum. I'll be drawing a line under this now then. If anyone else wants to try and drum up some interest, feel free to count me in.

Surprised at the lack of interest, though the prospect of a monthly meet up does sound daunting. Perhaps start off with a tri-yearly meet up, i.e every four months?

Would anyone be interested in a meet up over / after Easter? I think London is a good meet up for most people in the Uk, being centralised in terms of transport links. I am actually staying in the south west (at university) and for me to go up to Leeds would have required me to go through London anyway.

If I can tie it in with other commitments and travel arrangements I'd attend

Also not far from London and possibly interested in turning up some times.

I have just seen the link regarding joomla groups around the world and think the profile for this Idea could be much higher now. I and my team would be interested so thats 4. I know of a coffee shop just off covent garden with wireless access and great coffee, could be a venue.

Anyone wanting to meet up just add to this forum or email [email protected] and I will get in touch if we get past 10 and get dates together.

I would suggest the format would be socialising and chatting about areas of interest. Perhaps a problem fixing session which can continue when not in meeting. and perhaps ideas to raise funds etc for the joomla core team, we who use the system owe a lot to the system we use.

It would allow us to share contacts and client stories and hopefully have points of contact for future problem solving so we can all work that more efficiently.

Im up to 6 interested in a meeting in London...get to 10 and I will book a date and venue....any others interested?

I am interested and probably a couple of colleagues too, so you count me as one, but you may be able to get another two to come with me.

We are based around London, we have offices in Liverpool Street, so, very central and very interested. I was thinking of creating a London based Joomla day for the documentation on 1.5, but in reality, we are ready to play, but not to organise.


So if anyone out there is interested in organising, let me know.
