Self promoting question

What is "self promoting?"

In this thread < http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,116888.0.html >, a question was raised asking for our help (opinion) on what a "good" open source project is to us.

I gave a brief definition. Since I had blogged on a similar topic -- and provided the link to help with his research.

Mod note: link removed for second time. This forum is not for the promoting of ones ideologies, commercial interests, or opinions. On topic replies and posts are welcome though.

I do not make any money on my blog, my license for sharing is as liberal as I can choose (CC at 2.5) and I allow republishing (in other words, there are few restrictions on my writings.) The article I linked to wasn't about Joomla!, in fact, I think if you read it, Brad, you'd probably like it -- it's not far off from what I understand your perspectives to be.

But this link was removed based on "self promotion". Is it acceptable to say email me for related articles?

I could have copied and pasted the article in since it was "on topic" - why can't I link to it? And, how is this self promotion? I had understood self promotion to restrict commercial impositions on community members. I have no commercial interest.

Thanks in advance for helping me understand this better.

The rules state:
# Any posts deemed to be self promotion, advertising, or spam can and will be removed. NO SPAM - NO ADVERTISING eg. Posting and making excessive, inappropriate and unnecessary references to your products and websites is self promotion.

Yes.
