Confusion on Recently Updated Extensions

Post by mattstahl » Wed Jan 17, 2007 4:33 pm

As far as I'm concerned, you boys are God's gift to humanity, so even vocalizing suggestions is tough for me to do. That suggestion has to do with the "recently updated" extensions list on the Joomla.org site. New items naturally appear at the top of the list and then drop progressively, but I oftentimes see extensions jump up to the top of the list again, with no obvious reason that I can determine from the version number, comments or abbreviations, and there's nothing obvious on the developer's site to indicate what the source of the second change was. I think it would be VERRRRRRYYYYY helpful to require extension posters to leave a comment/tick a box/add a hyperlink/etc. to inform the Joomla community why the listing is there (i.e. New version/added feature/new module/new mambot/bug fix/etc). Just a thought, but many of us would be helped.

Keep up the great work!

Hi mattstahl,

Suggestions and ideas for improvements are always welcomed  :)

The list of recently updated extensions are generated from when the listing in Joomla! Extension Directory is updated, not necessarily the extension itself.
That could be an update of the description, a change in title or actually a change in version number ~ new release.

Your suggestion with a tick box sounds indeed usefull, and we will have this in mind for future updates. Thanks.

It would be really helpful to see why the listing appears in updated list.
For example on gallery.menalto.com when changing the wiki pages you can enter a reason or comment to the change and select whether it is minor or major update.
This would be helpful indeed.
btw: ext directory changes for recently updated listing and better rss support have beeen promised for months and months now... still waiting....
the recently update listing has been modified so that more recently pdated ext are now shown but the volume on the directory has increased and so now u still have to check every day to not miss any changes... :( :( :(

This is need, as many developer purposely bump their extension without any reason, or make version change mandatory for an extension to appear in recent update list.
Do you want to see VirtueMart 1.1 stable?
Try nightly build http://forum.virtuemart.net/index.php?topic=31381.0

Maybe change the Recently Updated date itself when the version of the component changes?
