De-brief - Melbourne, Australia - Joomladay 24th Jan 2007 - Share your thoughts with us.

A big thank you to every one taking the time and effort to organize this event, it was a good turnout and Im sure the next will be even better.

I really enjoyed brads speech and his a good talker especially when it comes to quoting presidents :) i know nothing about. (Persistence)
Andrew answered a 2 of my questions over skype concerning rendering of the front page items ordering and an implantation of a more flexible design to come. Also the subject of item id not creating a pure link from the read more and title link option is also getting looked at for version 1.5.

Russ Winter was a delightful edition to the event telling us how they really do nothing at Q & T WG
Well nothing we get to see as every day users ;) as if it don't pass their tests we don't get to see it at all
so my guess is they must be doing something :) (he constantly mentioned bribing my guess is he must be part Greek)

Everyone that came also received a free cd with tones of joomla related goodies and a joomla install ready to run of cd.

Over all it was nice to place some faces behind all those posts we constantly fill our hours with reading.
Some great facts concerning joomla project were presented and one that impressed me the most is the tera bytes that a free project like this uses up daily.

p.s I won a T-Shirt

looking forward to the next one  8)

From "The Joomla Virgin" perspective let me say that I found it a very informative and useful meeting. Thanks heaps to the team that put in so much effort to arrange and deliver the gathering and the free CD!
I look forward to "plunging in" and developing my first Joomla site very soon, so stand by on the forum for heaps of dumb newbie questions! ;)
Cheers,
Graham

The afterparty was at Manchester Lane.. where the hardcore / stragglers talked, exchanged J! ideas and drank till about 8..

Which is, of course, running Joomla! How's that for zen co-incidence ?  8)

What should the flickr tag be again?

Interesting.. I had about 4 or 5 conversation on the politics of Mambo, being ex-3PD Standards and U&A/D&A (I think I had 3 people ask me directly why it went south in the first place) so the difference on the 'floor' is remarkably different than the perception from the podium. Perhaps this is because I'm as 'old school' as Brad is ?? (adoption of Mambo in early 2003).

Edit: Addition of floor vs podium perception shift

If you believe the CD will be of use or interest to your friends and clients, please feel free to distribute the CD's.

The content itself is either GPL/GNU or "Not-For-Profit" Creative Commons, relevant copyright notices and notices on the index pages should stay intact is the only requirement.

Here's a few pics I took of the day. (I can't use Flickr either)

JR - apologies but when I got home I realised after chatting to you  enthusiastically about a Melb Joomla Users group I still had my Registration form so I hope yourself and Absalom will keep me posted.

everything widely available on joomla.org from pdf manuals to components and plugins

the fact thats its all organized in one neatly displayed joomla site that runs directly of the cd is the huge bonus.
When ever i open up the subject about joomla with friends or co workers i just hand them over a copy of the cd
knowing that their first taste of joomla will be an informative / impressive and virtual one.

Regarding the live demo bit. Was it mine? I only ask because I've just been notified of a serious bug in the 1.0 version that will prevent joomla  loading correctly in certain circumstances. I'm trying to work on a fix for it right now.

What is this I read about the possibility of a Brisbane event, because that would be awesome. I am a final year IT student at university and currently doing a website from scratch with Joomla, being doing on and off starting late last year and it is looking okay at the moment. My university griffith university has also used Joomla to create some of its websites as well, and I am a huge fan.
Would love to know the details when they come to light.

Thanks

We're already talking about a Bris JoomlaDay.

BTW, my brother goes to Griffith Uni as well, and was involved with the development of that Joomla site you are talking about. :)

Thank you Brad, Russ and Robyn for helping to put together a terrific meet.
In a short space of time we managed to group together 55-60 people - like bees to honey. There were some that I spoke to that only heard about the event 2 hours prior to the starting time! Great effort to get out of work at such short notice!
The feedback I received was all positive. The only noticable element of absenteeism was Russ's red nose and cowbot hat. He's promised to bring both to our next meet!
Talking of which... If anyone would care to lend a hand in helping to plan and arrange a 'next meet' please feel free to put up your hand and/or PM me. Based on the registration forms completed, most (if not all) that attended filled out a registration form that indicated interest in meeting again. I have a few venues (in Melb City) in mind and have started contacting them today.
In the words of Alfred Tennyson - "I am a part of all that I have met."
It was great to meet with you all yesterday and I look forward to our next.

Thanks for listing relevant topics of the Joomla CD. Am exploring if someone can spare me a copy of the Joomla CD - it will be very useful for me being a joomla beginner. . .

Thanks in advance. Will provide my nsw contact address privately to potential provider.

Cheers. . .

Thanks a lot, would have been fantastic to have you there, but a much needed vacation with family is much more important. I do hope you both are enjoying Australia.

Thanks for the coffee and opportunity to network.  It was worth the trip from Ballarat.  It's amazing that a chat between a couple of core team members exploded into an event of that size.  Thanks also, for the shirt (which caused some jealousy in both my boss and my husband).

Cheers,
Laura
