Just wondering why the reviews on the extension page are not sorted in either ascending or descending order, preferably the latter.

Good question but also the wrong forum the extension site has an own forum to answer all this questions.

I obviously need to get myself more familiar around here ...where is the extension forum so I can check the reply at a later time?

Hi LikeStuff,

Until latest update of the Extensions Directory reviews were sorted by date listing newest at top, but this was changed to weigh usefulness first.
Now the users can vote if a review was helpful or not. These reviews will be listed first.

I think the extensions should be listed in order of date (descending).  Why??  Well, the extensions are continually updated so a review that was listed a year ago may not be relevant to the extension a year later as those issues may have been resolved.

Who determines usefulness? If it's based on reviews, views, or downloads, that's going to vary a lot based on the type of people who are interested in the category of application. Therefore, this ordering scheme should be given further consideratoin. The only sorting criteria that make sense are:

1. In New Extensions, newest first.
2. In All Extensions or My Page, alphabetical.
3. In a selected category, popularity.

Is it not possible to base the sorting order on which view the user is using?

I think some weight should be given to how recent a review is. In our case, many of the review which reflect recent update to the application were buried by the old review which are often outdated.  Usefulness of a review are also appear to be rather baseless. In many cases, I've seen that 'usefullness' rating have not much value.

I kinda like review ordered by date. It keep me alert, and continuously improving our component to make sure all new reviews are good. It also inform new visitor how people are currently viewing the component, instead of how it was 3 months ago! (which is a very long time in this internet time)

Hmmm... It would appear that in my first post on this topic I took the whole subject out of context. Date-sorted reviews are definitely the way to go. My original mindset on this had to do more with the ordering of the extensions themselves, not the reviews of them. So that earlier message I posted might make more sense now.

I agree they should be in date order - older reviews should sink to the bottom. 

Agreed as well. It has to be a tough job to sort through all that info. I think that weight on usefulness is good & a certain amount of weight applied to date of response as well.

perhaps a combination of both
assign a rating based on the usefulness and the time that has passed since the review was posted.. the more time passed since the rating was placed, the lower that rating will be

not so good, as you can just have people post new ratings to make bad ones go out of sight.. Imagine an extension which hasn't been updated in a long time: older reviews would still apply..
But I'd also rather see the most recent comment first, no matter what, and us users can just vote it "not usefull" if that is the case.
