Frustrated with the main column

Hi there all.  I have been doing a lot of reading in this forum but have not posted until now.  I have been too busy trying to figure things out.  I have come a long way.  I started by tearing down the default template piece by piece.  This brought me along way in understanding how Joomla works.  I am trying to build a website for my church to replace our old one www.phoenixcrc.org I am using the Blue template from the Simplicity templates Series.  My problem relates to the middle (main) column on the home page.  I am using the frontpage component for my home page with my preferred content being selected to be shown on the front page.  This content wants to be stubborn.  It will not listen to the formatting I give it in the "WYSIWYG" editor.  But even more frustrating is that the content will not let me use the whole column.  Instead I get everything squished to the left side.  This not the case for any of the other content items, they all work just fine.  In fact, when I copy text from other content into the "home" content via the "WYSIWYG" editor, it works just fine.  I have looked to see if there was any formatting in my content html that might be causing the problem and there wasn't.  I have also looked at the template html and css and can not find the cause of the problem.  I know a little html and understand a little css but not enough to get me out of trouble.  Can someone please offer up some suggestions for me as to how I might fix the problem I have presented?

Forget com_frontpage altogether.  If your front page is not blog or news based, your best bet is to unpublish the current "home" link in your mainmenu, and create a new link named "Home" that points to a content item you *can* format (any content or static content item), reorder the mainmenu so your new Home is the top entry, and bingo!

I have already done this and it works well.  The only problem I have is then it seems I loose the option to add multiple blocks of content into my front page.  I don't have any plans to add more than one block of content now but may want to in the future.  I suppose you could do this with the HTML editor but it would be a lot more complicated and time consuming.  Maybe I'm wrong, I've been wrong once before ;D  What do you think?

Without being able to envision what you're doing in the future, I can't say for sure if it would be hard or not.  But, in the future you could always return to com_frontpage when this occurs... you're not killing it forever, just turning it off for a while.

And when you get to that point and you have questions... we're here.
